The only dumb thing I did was to expect that there were enough adults on this list to accept that all I was doing was letting folk on the list know what was available in honest trade between like minded members. As for all of the hurt and indignation being rolled out give it a rest. I'll let you in on how I deal with other collectors on the list. There are about three with whom I have a standing agreement that if I get something they want then they can have it and this works both ways. There are about another 6 with whom I keep informed of what has come along every 3 months or so and arrange trades based on what has arrived since we were last in touch. There are at least another 6 - 8 people that I have supplied with things for the cost of a blank cd and postage, though in most cases I don't bother with this as the cost to me is minimal abd I most certainly Do Not want these people to mail the list about it. Further more I find it a tad strange that members of the list who enjoy trading live recordings get such a hard time form people, it would be true to say that if it were not for certain collectors/traders on the list there would be relatively little happening in the way of tree projects. I have faced at least one demand to clarify my "if things are going well" remark in my first posting, so for the sake of peace and quiet here goes. The original recordings which were offered in trade did have certain stipulations placed on them, however I did see a situation where by these could be traded for other recording that did not and from these something could have been put together at a latter date. Now had I spelled this out in big letters and nobody had offered to trade then I would have looked pretty silly. As it stands I have had offers of stuff from almost all of the UK shows, at this time I don't know what if any limitations will be put on these recordings by the folk trading them. I do suspect that some will have none and something could well be done in the future in the form of a treed item based on them. One person has alreagy been contacted off list with an eye to the US distribution and I think I know who may well handle the European and UK sides of thins if this does happen. It's just a pity that the list members who tried to read so many negative things into my original posting could not do the same from a more positive angle, a few did and mailed me off list as I had requested in my original posting. I must say that I did find Colleen's posting where she went on to answer her own questions mildly amusing, however I really am getting a little tired of KBP's lies. This is not a word I use lightly, in the past she has said that I trade for financial profit, this is a lie. She has also said that Jim Lawn has been feeding me with semi-official recordings to trade or sell, again this is a lie. In my view if anybody has done something on this list that deserves to raise a barage of outrage it is you, so kindly keep your lies and mud slinging to yourself. It's sad to to say that the very people who have been so ready to accuse me off acting in self interest will quite happily let that sort of behaviour go without a word as long as it may work to their own benefit. Btw, if you want to launch another of your slanderous attacks that is up to you as from now on I wouldn't give you the satisfaction of reading your postings never mind having to answer them. If anybody wihes to keep this going it's up to them, but I for one have had enough and won't be replying to any more posts on it. Someone has made me an offer to send me a tour programme from London in trade for some XTC boots and If it's going to be the same I'll tell him not to bother (he will still get the xtc of course). a little off-topic: I just got the new Nuggets Box Set. For those of you who don't know the orginal Nuggets was a compilation of american garage bands from the 60's put out in the early 70's by future Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye. A few years back Rhino expanded the original and added 3 cds worth of music in the same vein. It was an excellent box set and gave me many hours of enjoyment introducing me to bands I'd never heard of and many that I had forgotten. Last week Rhino continued the series with a 4cd box set of nuggets from Europe/South America etc (anywhere but the USA) including bands like the Nice, Idle Race, Mickey Finn, Tomorrow et al.,certainly bands that the masses here in the USA have never heard of and many that even the anglophiles amongst us will be pleasantly surprised (look I have cds by Tomorrow, Creation, the Herd but this collection is so massive that I can honestly say that that at least 60% is new to me) Like the first Nuggets this collection is about the one hit wonders, the cult bands, the forgotten gems and it is worth every penny. I loved the first one because it brought back such memories and gave me songs that a the time would have been very hard to find. I might grow to love this one even more because it's introducing me to things I never heard. This is not for everyone certainly-but since this is a Roxy Music list-and they are a "cult band" in many ways albeit one with much more success and many more than 1 hit- I think that the discerning music lovers on this list will get a real kick out of this. Last but not least if anyone out there has a CDR of any 2001 Roxy Shows I would love to trade-I don't have much but I do have a pretty good collection of XTC/Bowie/Todd Rundgren live shows with some Cheap Trick thrown in. As a matter of fact even if you don't have any 2001 Roxy and are interested in those artists I mentioned drop me an email off-list and I'll be glad to make copies. I nearly asked Peter York to sign a programme for me - I thought it would have been funny in an ironic post-modernist way. But then I lost my nerve..... I was just shocked to see him queue and then pay for his programme with real money. I had always thought that he would be like the Royal Family and have some helper to do all that for him. I even think he made some joke about the price ... just like everybody else was doing. I cannot accept that the man who pontificated about style on 'The Tube' (RIP) was that relaxed. He was wearing a linen suit and red and white candy striped shirt if anyone's interested. No longer last year's fab rave. Mmelle. T. >From: "A.L. On July 26, all Avalonians are invited to join Maggie and me at Fellini's Pizza on Roswell Road at Wieuca at 4 pm for a pre-show party. The restaurant is very conveniently located in relation to the major highways and Chastain Park. To get there: Atlanta is surrounded by a "loop" interstate hwy called I-285, or, more familiarly, "the perimeter" or "the parking lot." If 285 is a clock, then the Roswell Road exit is amost at 12 o'clock. If you're coming down I-75 from Tennessee, Kentucky, etc. then you'll go east on I-285 and south on Roswell. If you're coming down I-85 from the Carolinas, then you'll go west on I-285 and south on Roswell. If you're coming up I-20 from Alabama, then you'll go north and then east up I-285 and south on Roswell. Fellini's Pizza is three miles inside the perimeter on the left. It's an Atlanta-based, very bohemian chain, with no restaurants outside 285. They serve really, really good pizza, sandwiches and calzones. After the show, those with hearty constitutions and a love of either good whisky or a good pint of Guinness are invited to pop a few miles down the road to Buckhead, to a wonderful Irish-themed pub called Fado. That is, of course, assuming you're not planning on tracking the guys down at their hotel. For those of you new to Atlanta and staying in the Big Peach overnight and for part of the weekend, we locals will be pleased to point you in the direction of a few great touristy things. If you wanna do some record shopping (and really, who among us doesn't), then I invite you to my Atlanta/Athens used cd page at http://gmslegion.00page.com/www/cdstores.html. I may be persuaded to hit a few myself. But there are all sorts of other great things to do and see in Atlanta on Friday, like the High Museum of Art, Lenox Square, the Botanical Gardens, the World of Coca-Cola, the Atlanta Historical Society and the Swann House, CNN Center and Zoo Atlanta. You should certainly visit the World of Coke just to try a Fanta Raspberry. Oh yeah, and there's some museum about some Mitchell person who wrote some book about wind. If you feel like a road trip with beautiful scenery, then there's the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon, the home town of a fella named Otis Redding. I think Bry has heard of him. If you feel like a road trip with less beautiful scenery, but an even nicer destination, there's Athens, which plenty of folk agree is the best city on Earth. As it gets closer to show date, I will be posting a page with this info and more, including area maps and details of any nifty concerts going on Friday night. Sadly, the Fox Theatre is booked for "Casper the Musical," so that's one really good venue out. :( A word of caution: to visit Atlanta and not eat at the Varsity is considered a crime against the city. We take it personally. And while Bry himself might be hesitant to try a nekkid steak with red pepper, rings and a large PC, you should not be. So anyway, mark it all on your calendars now. I'll be putting up the web page with maps soon and will announce that in a couple of weeks! Drop Maggie or me a line if you know you're coming, or just show up and enjoy the fun!
