Really. I have been struck by people's kindness, generosity and openness on this list. Sadly it doesn't really surprise me that people could taunt a list (through which they've probably obtained recordings they otherwise wouldn't have) with material they can't or won't pass on. Well said, David! Thank you and Kevin for recognizing an unfriendly AVALON attitude. It is comforting to know that there are kindred spirits in UK to join the voices of KB, Colleen and mine! I'm sure that if Thom spoke with his friend and asked him to reconsider in the spirit of furthering the cause of Roxy Music around the world, there could be a change of heart. One must always hope!! Roxy Music should not be about elitism! As I said in my original posting I have both benefited from and contributed to some of the tree projects on the list. There are many list members who have or will be taping shows on this tour. All I have done is let them know what is on offer in return if they want to trade these recordings and from the replies I have had there are plenty of list members who welcome this opportunity. It would seem that there are list members who enjoy trading live recordings, though they don't neccessarily know who else does so it makes sense to make an "on list" request for "off list" replies from like minded list members. If this is a problem for you then that's too bad . > If I have misunderstood anything you have written, I would welcome a clarification. In fact, I am sure that many of us > would. I don't think I really want to go through the motions of justifying myself to you, after all your you give the impression that you have read into things what you want so I don't think I'll bother. > yet it's also fine for you to bad mouth this list I have not bad mouthed this list to anybody. In case you haven't noticed it was possible to download the digests without being subscribed to the list. By doing this it is possible to sample what goes on and make a decision on that basis. > Please also understand that a response which merely calls me names merely > confirms my suspicions (and those of several others). It would seem to be you who wishes to start some sort of slanging match, not I. You seem to have the knack of asking a question on one line and then answering it with what you want to hear on the next. So as you seem to enjoy answering yourself I think I'll just let you get on with it Have a nice agument with yourself. Having said that the sort of self gratifying rant that was posted by Collen really doesn't help the cause. If anything it probably hinders it as it doesn't make me inclined to go out of my way when having to read that sort of stuff, let's just say that I intend to use the delete button a bit more often in the future. There is a chance that through the trades that some sort of compilation of tracks from various shows could be put together if the people who have mailed me "off list" with possible trades are cool with the idea. As it will take time to trade the recordings in and grade them by sound quality it may take a bit of time. At time of posting I have offers of recordings from most of the UK tour, but there are a heck of a lot of shows still to come and it would be nice if this sort of project were to be carried out that it would cover all legs of the tour as there are bounfd to be set changes in the future. Thanks, Tom: This is very encouraging. I'm glad to know you did ask and that in time a tree or two might emerge. We can surely be patient. After 18 years of waiting for Roxy to re-emerge, what's a few months? Could this be the start of a very depressing thread? Painful memories of missed Roxy Music concerts. My sad story dates back to 1975, Brisbane, Australia. Tickets to first Australian tour bought + Major excitement + Big fight with boyfriend + Insane (I was 16) refusal to attend concert = Lifelong regret. Probably doesn't make Bryan feel any better. We can surely be patient I'm sure you/we won't have to wait that long. Someone else on the list will have copies of shows-and they will want to make them available through a tree. It's not like Thom's friend is the only person with live Roxy from this tour. And if you don't like the conditions thom has made-then don't trade with him when you get something- Let's say when a tree gets started-everyone involved could just make sure that no copy will be sent out to thom for his friend's use under the condition that if they break this rule-then they can never get another tree cd from this list. But let's not get on thom's case for waving the carrot and then snatching away. That's his right to do just as it is your/our right never to involve him in a cdtree again. john ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 23:23:08 EDT From: RiseGluck@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Live trades, no tree. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jun 2001 21:34:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Scotty Subject: [AVALON] BBC radio.... G'day all... Got up this morning at 5.55am (Melbourne time) to tune into the Roxy concert via internet radio only to hear the last couple of verses of the final song 'Do the Strand'. Bloody summer time variations!!! I thought it was a ten-hour difference, but it turned out to be nine. Any chance of the BBC replaying it? I'll do my calculations properly next time. What I heard this morning sounded terrific. Hope the rest of it was similar. Scotty Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
