A ROCK concert is supposed to ROCK! As the late great Elvis once said when asked why he gyrated so much,"Rock-n-roll, if you like it, it moves you and makes you want to move to it. I can't sit still when I hear it". As for going to a show to see/ hear the band- I can hear no matter what position I am in ( standing, sitting, or lying down). I can also see while I'm dancing and actually having fun. Most bands prefer an audience that shows some signs of life rather than playing to a house full of seated mannequins. They feed off of the energy coming from the people in front of them and usually put on a much better show. Whenever I hear someone at a concert, with two good legs, complaining about people dancing, I think of those people in the handicapped areas, bopping in their wheelchairs, who would give anything for the chance to get on their feet and dance. No cares how well you dance, that is not the point, it's not a ballroom contest. I once saw a guy with one leg, at a Clapton show, throw down his crutch to jump up and down in the aisle, while others sat there looking at him like he was the fool. I say if you want to sit and STARE at sometihng for two plus hours, stay home and rent the Titanic video. Hope to see you dancing in front of me in Boston even if you are a humorless giant. So looking back on it now it`s probably a good thing glam was shunned because it was able to remained pure and unmolested by the American music industry. The few attempts by the industry to capitalize on it produced, as you`d expect, second rate swill like Jobriath for example. Unlike Iggy Pop or the New York Dolls who "paid their dues" by recording, touring, and building an audience, Jobriath was a creature of a record company to capitalize on Bowie`s fame. Ihave go now I've come over all emotional. The musical influences may have been more explored in a Gary Kemp auto. as I get the impression that he was the main musical force between the two. If your still interested the ISBN number is ....0-75283-264-6. I got our copy from Amazon. I think its now available in paperback also.
