Did any of their last >3 albums get in the US Billboard Top 10 album charts. > I think the first four albums "did" make a dent in the U.S. but it was among those who refused to let the radio stations dictate musical taste. Roxy`s appearance on Midnight Special/In Concert/Don Kirshner(sp) were big events for us. The only other exposure were Circus/Cream/Rolling Stone magazine articles/reviews. Keep in mind that this was looooog ago before cable tv and video games and just as the last of the dinosaurs were dying out. We had to drive 450 horse powered gas guzzling barges 5 miles...both ways.... to schools without computers or calculators or even electric pencil sharpeners. Ah yes the old daze... This was how I came to know/love/appreciate Roxy. 70's radio at that time in Chicago was a wasteland of blandness. Thank god for Roxy and Bowie to shake things up a bit. It a shame that the rest of America did not get it. As far as them charting, I'm not sure, but as you may be aware Love is The Drug with it's 'disco" beat did hit more than a few ears here. I think as the tour starts to hit here, we will see an renewed interest in them. I do hope they do a few high profile shows, i.e Jay Leno, Letterman, Connan O' Brien, VH-1 Storytellers, or Behind the Music ( hey even Duran Duran got their hour). I don't care what they play ( ...well Out of the Blue) as long as they play. Period. Kudo's to Roxy for keeping at it and sounding ( so far) as though time stood still. Enough for now. The nurse is coming in to give my Gertiol and my afternoon nap. Us old folks need that to recharge our batteries. We can't keep up with young whipper snappers like we use to . My social security check wil pay for my ticket. I will make a withdrawl from my pension to get a t-shirt and program. Staring at Sunsets in these golden years in Chicago Jas 46 + Memo to Alan: See Iggy Pop when he comes to your town. He'll make you wish YOU could do what he does when and if you reach his age (about the same as Andy, Phil, and Bryan). ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 01:07:44 -0700 From: "Keith Shockley" Subject: [AVALON] Other Musical Tastes I picked up the new Ladytron cd after seeing the video for "Party Girl". It is quite interesting. I too was once a huge Sparks fan and remember seeing them on American Bandstand a couple of times. Other things I still listen to or have recently gotten into: Bowie, Siouxsie, XTC, Wire, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, and Air to name just a few.
