They were promoting their newly released album "Balls" and did alot of songs from that album and some of the oldies mixed in and around them. They performed a few months earlier, too, in November 1999 to promote the album, as it was due to be released then but management cocked everything up for them hugely and there were big delays. I recommend their stuff to anyone. Buy "Balls". It's not their best album but it's certainly worth listening to, especially the songs "Irreplacable" and "The Angels". They will never get the recognition they deserve (Think of all the people they influenced in their time- Pet Shop Boys, Yazoo, Erasure, to name just a few !) and I doubt they will ever hit the big time again. Over time my tastes have leaned towards those aspects. It was only over time(on a very circuitous route) that I learned about Eno, then Roxy, and their influence on some of my (sentimental)favorites. So I decided to listen to Roxy to get my fix. Pure. Mainlined. What I've been looking for. Now I gotta have it all the time, style, humor, emotion, wrapped up in a fine musical package, pumped directly into my brain. It's getting to a point where I gotta have more, but sources are getting fewer. It's starting to become painfully obvious that I have to DO something, rather than just consume. Not too strong of a Roxy fanbase up here. Which makes it great to pick up Roxy on vinyl for cheeeeeeap(just picked up Manifesto and Flesh + Blood for $5 a pop for my girlfriend today), but makes it that I have to go to Vancouver to catch their show. Heh, I used to go-go dance for a glam night in New Orleans. There's a bit of a glam scene up here, but it's more geared towards a Slade/Sweet/Kiss type of glam than a Bowie/Roxy "high" style. And it's all done with an "aren't we funny being post-modern and ironic? Wink, wink, nudge, nudge" attitude, the humor of which I found old in 1998. I end up having to get my fix at the goth clubs in the city. The Prince of Happiness "Isn't it nice? I don't know how they did in the USA charts, ... anyone??? Actual chartage, I'll leave to the anoraks. Purely anecdotal: I've heard 3 of the 4 at most twice each on radio in the past twenty years. SOTT, perhaps thrice. I stocked up one some Siouxsie albums as well as a bunch of other CDs. What a >doughnut! I know, I know...what an absolute doughnut! I mean, they charge almost #40 a ticket to see a band and then fans actually expect to SEE a band. Pah! How daft... It might surprise some on this list, but there are quite a few people who regularly gig who actually buy a ticket in the hope they will be able to stay seated and see/hear the band without having to dodge the arhythmic epileptic in front of them who decides unilaterally to block their view to the best of his/her ability. Me, I'm 6ft 3in and can see over most human obstacles. But people who decide it is acceptable to stand in front of someone else, just because they wrongly believe their right to dance means they can actually dance, and prevent that smaller person a row back from seeing the event...well, it's pathetic actually. To then laugh at that person and call them names..."doughnut", well, I mean, really...it borders on concert bully nazism.
