But along with Roxy I've been listening to a lot of the Todd Rundgren Japanese Archive Series of various shows throughout his career-and while older Todd (especially Utopia) don't hold up as well they still bring back good memories. The new XTC japanese remasters are also of a superior sound quality. Again early XTC doesn't hold up that well-but from about Drums and Wires on they have a great track record. And last but not least I've been listening to alot of Ramones which is great to blast in a car. I had listened to the album by the Finnish band Sigur Ros which I found so boring and pretentious that I had to "cleanse the palate" with something-and Ramones did the trick (it was either them or Cheap Trick). john ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2001 18:30:35 +0100 From: "Niki H" Subject: [AVALON] test _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2001 18:54:15 +0100 From: "Niki H" Subject: [AVALON] third time lucky maybe this is the third time I try to tell you that I don't know why there was an attachment to my last post,I have no idea what it was and how it got there.... _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2001 13:57:14 EDT From: Jads2@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Getting Ready and Now Playing In a message dated 6/1/01 1:45:21 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Jads2@aol.com writes: << Finnish band Sigur Ros >> My mistake-they are from Iceland not Finland but remain incredibly boring ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2001 18:55:59 +0100 From: David Firmin Subject: [AVALON] Bryan Ferry was on the panel A Day In The Life has been voted the best Beatles song. And Strawberry Fields Forever, which never made it to the top of the UK charts, was named the band's second-best track. The full list of the top-50 Beatles songs appears in the June issue of Uncut magazine. About 100 of The Beatles' contemporaries and fellow musicians were polled. The all-star panel voted A Day In The Life as the group's strongest recording. Day in the Life is best of the Beatles The song, recorded in 1967 to bring a dramatic end to their Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, weaves together John Lennon's verses inspired by newspaper reports, the remains of a completely separate song by Paul McCartney together with 24 bars of 'noise'. Inspired by news cuttings Lennon kept around his piano, the song refers to the death in a car crash of his friend and heir to the Guinness fortune, Tara Browne, and a story about pot holes in Blackburn, Lancashire. Taking in a section of another song written by Paul McCartney, the track even contains eight seconds of sound at the very end of the song, which is so highly pitched it can only be heard by dogs. The panel, which included Radiohead, Oasis, Bryan Ferry and Noddy Holder, ignored many of the Fab Four's early hits in the top ten with only 1965's In My Life in the top five. The panel's top 10 Beatles songs were: A Day In The Life Strawberry Fields Forever I Am The Walrus Tomorrow Never Knows In My Life Across The Universe Something Rain Helter Skelter Happiness Is A Warm Gun - -- My favourite song is "Baby Your a Rich Man" - David *** ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Jun 2001 18:59:53 +0100 From: stevesiren Subject: Re: [AVALON] Bryan Ferry was on the panel On Ferry's Radio 1 show in' 81 he played Day in the Life & says it is his fave Beatle track.
