But you MUST book at least 14 days in advance and travel at your specified times. I think the savings are about 50% on most journeys. So as far as I am concerned I almost have a free Roxy ticket. Hence, my sitting on a wall in the sun from about 2pm, just absorbing the atmosphere around the studios and watching.... My strategy paid off as I noted Rhett Davies' red convertible, wisely parked out of the sun, under a tree; Zev Katz' uncertain arrival in a black cab and the most amusing of all, the arrival of Sarah Brown, the backing singer. Her arrival in a white open top sports acr driven by her blond boy friend was truly theatrical. She sported a hairdo about a foot high, around which was wound a white cloth. Once she got out of the car, she began her long farewells to/with her amour, which were performed in the middle of the road and at great length... Next to arrive in a chauffered MPV with darkened windows were the Mackays- Andy and wife. Even from a distance (of about 25 yards), I thought he looked tired and was slouching somewhat. I noticed the appearance of some likely Avalon suspects around 3.30- 4pm, one or two of whom repaired to the pub or to the shade of Rhett's tree. At last my Scottish compatriots arrived, having been delayed in the infamous London traffic, Therese and her brother, Raymond. After a quick visit to the autobank, we returned to be rewarded with the arrival at one of the side entrances, in a black landrover, by the Cool Ruler himself. Resplendent, yet tastefully understated in a midnight blue suit, he dashed from the car to the building, followed at a relaxed interval by his PA carrying a suitcarrier marked Gucci. Well, he did say that he'd be wearing Gucci for the tour. We decided to grab a drink in the foyer bar until we realised that the queue proper had begun. We joined it and met up with the usual suspects and tried to conserve our energies for the night ahead....to be continued. I did thoroughly enjoy myself; luxuriating in the generally relaxed atmosphere, amazed at the crestfallen 'little- boy- getting-told-off-at school' look that crossed Bryan's face when told that they had to do JG again and ecstatic at the welcome that TGPT received from the grateful throng. There was, in between 'takes' as us media types call it(!!), a lot of banter between the crowd and the band members. Bryan was relaxed enough to sign autographs too, and was relatively unfazed when the legendary, girl-in-the-red t shirt stormed the stage to steal 2 autographs. She got no reply to her request for a kiss, though!!. He allegedly had a less benign encounter on stage at the RFH, last year. All too soon, the whole thing was over and I began to wonder whether I'd imagined it all or not. Maybe I had and I was 14 again, but if that was the case there'd be serious trouble as I would most certainly not, be allowed to attend such an event.... Back to the bar, and my obsession- getting my RM 1973 songbook signed, by the band. Hey, my luck's looking up; who but TGPT is at the bar. Taking my courage in my hands as us Scots are quite reticent, you know, I asked him if he would please sign his picture within. He is as many have said and as he says himself on his website, more that happy to commune with the fans. He commented on the age of the book, which I'd bought at the time (!)and showed me the picture of himself he liked the best. My courage boosted, I then wondered, was it possible to meet the others and aquire a full set tonight?...This has to be the 'best time, we all know...The portents were good and in between dotting back to report to Therese and Raymond in the pub, I had stiffened my resolve and was going for it! I missed Phil as he and his wife speedily left the building and left by chauffered MPV- dash it!! But the 15 mins or so later, I noticed Mr and Mrs MacKay about to leave, but waiting for their transport in the foyer. This is my chance I thought, pen and book at the ready, but they were obviously in deep discussion and I felt I couldn't intrude. However, luck was again on my side and when they made a move to leave, I asked him to sign and pointed out his younger self in the picture. He was very polite, but tired I think, as his wife was obviously wanting to whisk him away. The absolute pinnacle of my evening was still to come as prowled the streets of Hammersmith; I couldn't rest until I had met in person, the man, whose career I'd been following for 28 years, even if just for a few seconds. Minutes later he emerged into the foyer, accompanied by his PA (I think) and a minder. My time had come, I approached and asked if he would please sign for me. A gracious, 'of course' followed, then Raymond was there too and Bryan was asking to borrow my book to lean on whilst he signed for Raymond...and then he was gone...What a night!Still recovering, Diane Get 250 color business cards for FREE! http://businesscards.lycos.com/vp/fastpath/ ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 17:52:09 -0400 From: "tmoq" Subject: Re: [AVALON] TOTP Review Thanks to EVERYONE who presented a review.
