Rock and roll went into a coma for a while in the late 60s/70s and Elton was the poster boy for BlandRock, I think. PattyO Oh so true. In Chicago, all of them ruled the radio all the time and I hated it. That is what lead me to Bowie and Roxy Music. It was like a breath of fresh air. I have not regreted my choices. Granted, I was NOT an Elton John fan (and still not) however, I did like Madman Across the Water and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Bennie and the Jets was getting heavy rotation on the soul music stations here. Gawd, my late mother was singing that song!! He even did Soul Train!!! Bowie did the show later with Young Americans. Too bad America could not embrace Roxy. It would have been cool to have seen Roxy perform Casanova on Soul Train. It was very funky and the dancers would have boogied it up. One last word. I saw two concerts last week: U2 and later Iggy Pop. U2 was underwhelming, they just phoned it in. On the other hand Iggy was force of nature. At 54, he was moving like he was a teenager. He kicked ass! Raw Power indeed!!! I was horse and sore afterwards, but most pleased. I hope I can be that agile when I reach his age, which is not that far on the horizion.
