I was lucky enough to hear about two weeks ago, but was sworn to say nothing ! As for Sarah Brown - this makes me wonder. Over a month ago, a girl came into my Shop, saying she'd been sent by another local record shop, as I was apparently 'the Roxy guy'. She wanted to buy loads of Roxy, and asked 'what they would be likely to play at a gig'. Well, turns out she was auditioning for the role of backing singer for the tour. She didn't know Roxy's material too well, apart from 'the hits'. Whether it's her or not who got the nod, who knows ? (imagine how many auditions they would have held !) but it was interesting all the same. If it is her, she's short, with dark corkscrew hair. If it's not, she failed ! Really looking forward to the tour, it's a great line-up, for sure. Big band though ! Reecey... Very well said, but just to offer a little bit on one point concerning Siren, in that it was definitely copied, especially "Both Ends Burning." Ferry's vocal inflections and Jobson's keyboards were ported over almost intact to Duran Duran circa 1981-1982. For reference, the Rio album! It's probably most telling that Simon LeBon(vocals) and Nick Rhodes(keyboards) ended up working with Andy Mackay on their little Arcadia side project. :) The Prince of Happiness "If I chase all my demons away, my angels might leave too!"-Iggy Pop http://princeofhappines.tripod.com/thepageofhappines.html _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 May 2001 15:03:18 -0700 (PDT) From: David Firmin Subject: [AVALON] Ready Spedding Go This is by far the greatest news. An interesting choice for the second guitar slot, though I've never really thought of him as a possible for Roxy. In my mind Spedding stole the show. He is one of the best guitarists around and this along with the news of Paul Thompson on drums makes the roxy reunion almost complete. It would be great if Jobson or Eno would join the band but we know that's not going to happen. Hopefully there will be some stuff from Let's Stick Together/In Your Mind played as Spedding was such an integral part. Now I am even happier that I chose to go to both nights in NYC (one with the wife who was a major roxy fan - -because of me-and who attended many of the same roxy shows i did in the 70's) and the other night will be with the boys. Here's the link: http://villagevoice.com/music/tickets_roxymusic.php3 Wow! Spedding. My second favorite guitarist, and I'll get to see them both together again! I also saw Spedding the the Bottom Line show. The highlight for me was Manzanera and Spedding playing their guitar necks together - what a sound. Spedding also played with Robert Gordon as Roxy's support act at several venues on the Manifesto tour. He outplayed Gordon, and I was rather disappointed that he didn't come out to guest with Roxy. Other times I've seen Spedding have been at Trax with Busta Jones and Irving Plaza in NYC, the (old) 9:30 Club in DC, and the aptly named 8 x 10 Club in Baltimore, where he had an incredibly screaming yellow Flying V. His work with Ferry is fabulous, and (it's only my opinion here) there's not much that compares to his playing on Eno's "The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch" and Joan Armatrading's "Me, Myself, I." See ya at the Garden!
