["Guy Lawley" ] Re: [AVALON] Bryan Ferry etc on Radio 5 live/Banana ["Gina" Subject: [AVALON] Have I Got Bryan Ferry News For You? Last night (Friday) the BBC "comedy" "quiz" show Have I Got News For You had an "odd one out" round featuring pics of Bryan Ferry, Rowan Atkinson, Peter (REM) Buck and some other bloke. Between them the "contestants" mustered enough brain power to figure out that the pics were about fracas* on aeroplanes (and that Peter Buck was the odd one out because he started it). Ian Hislop knew that BF was the singer with Roxy Music but when challenged to name one of their songs could only come up with Slave To Love, which everyone else seemed to know was a Ferry solo song. I was quite impressed by how much the HIGNFY crew knew about Ferry & Roxy! And all publicity is good publicity, some would say! I think the program might be repeated sometime over the weekend (???) BTW, the Father Ted episode guest-starring Father Brian Eno was shown again earlier in the week - I hadn't seen that particular episode before and I loved it! Talking about TV, I saw last week Monday in a comic kind of show on the BBC an interview with an imitation of Jerry Hall. Lady with long blond hair, long legs, and a horrible voice. Especially the part in which she showed a clip from her "new' movie was fun. The interviewer said something like: 'that's was awful, then 'Jerry' replied in that strange Texan accent something like" But everyone say they loooooooveeeddd it. It's as awful as your voice, he replied. If you read the paragraphs again you will see from the context that the fiancee belonged to caller, not Mr. Ferry. Very bland. This is one of his signature songs and I'm sure he felt obliged. Also if they include "Cant Let Go" as they did during Avalon performances in 82 they would have to have background singers. Finally just because one might be a female it doesn't mean you aren't a self loathing anti- feminist type. I've met some woman who are far more sexist then some men. Who comes up with these silly distinctions like male band or female band. Sounds like some personal issues to me. Also I finally heard J Blackfoots apparent original version of Taxi. J Blacfoots version is a bit more urban, but Bryan's arrangement doesn't deviate that much from Mr Blackfoots. I like Bryan's more. Finally, you are right Colleen, enough already on the greatest hits. According to a good spot by Roxyrama contributor Andrea (who is a lurker here too I think) there is another in Burning Airlines series of Roxy releases. The details from www.amazon.co.uk are as follows: Concerto Live 1979 Roxy Music Our Price: #10.99 This item will be released on 28 May, 2001. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives. Audio CD (28 May, 2001) Number of Discs: 2 Label: Burning Airlines; ASIN: B00005JG5P Catalogue Number: PILOT90 It claims to be a 2CD set, but seems awfully cheap for that. My theory is that this is the Denver concert previously released as 'Concert Classics' Can anyone shed any further light? Father Ted was a show produced for one of the independent channels in the UK - Channel Four, rather than the Beeb. It was written by Roxy fans Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews. Sadly there will not be an opportunity to develop the Eno thread in the show, as Dermot Morgan who played the eponymous lead character died suddenly at the age of 45 three years ago. I won't labour the 'satirise the Church - die young' point... Hi Han, This was 'Alastair McGowan's Big Impression' and the part of Hall was taken by Ronnie Ancona. Hall's voice was likened to that of Loyd Grossman, a Bostonian who has become a minor celebrity in the UK, mainly due to an accent which is ludicrous whichever side of the Atlantic you reside. The Daily Mirror's Scurra column this week ran this joke: Jerry Hall is a typical model - gain a Stone, lose a Stone... Hmm...
