I must say how much I'm enjoying it at the moment. Sometimes you need to put away albums like Mamouna and music by Portishead, Coldplay, Nick Cave and the likes. I love this back to basics approach by Ferry and he probably needed to do something like this after Mamouna. I think it probably reminded him of how much fun music can be because it's the warmest thing he's done since Foolish Things. The innocence of the whole thing is just great and it's something that you very rarely hear nowadays. Modern movies and music always require a twist to the degree that they become disturbing at times. It's great to be reminded of how wonderful the simple things in life can be. BF rules. I'm listening to a live bootleg from the In Your Mind/Let's Stick Together tour called "All Night Operator". First song is LST and someone is doing a damn fine hoot and holler ala Jerry Hall. Otherwise the supporting vocals seem to be John Wetton. Did Jerry Hall make any onstage appearances during any Ferry tour? 2. This one may be just me, but I've always considered Roxy Music (at least Eno/Jobson era) a guy's band. By that I mean they play muscular music that provides a strong contrast to lyrics that address the ambivalence of love and romance. (I know, I know, there's so much more to them than that but this is a quick nutshell.) Also, in the entire history of the band, again through the Jobson era, the only musicians were men. And, if I recall correctly, the only women "in" later Roxy Music would have been support singers. So, without wanting to start a firestorm or being accused of being a sexist pig, does anyone feel that it just ain't quite right if Lucy Wilkins takes EJ's place in the band? Along the same line, how many support players are confirmed and what's the general feeling about that? As I think I've always made clear, I preferred the rock group to the big band. I can still remember feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up upon hearing the piano opening of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". Hearing and seeing the band's string and horn section frenetically duplicate the synthesizer at the end of "Chance Meeting" was beyond surreal. The full band putting a real "cabaret" twist on "Bittersweet" brought out the true feel of the piece. Is there any debate as to how we were stuck by the stage performance of "The Only Face"? And last but not least, every single damn second of Sunset, one of my all time favorites. 3rd: Last and most privately, a true highlight, for myself at least, happened during a vocal break in "Chance Meeting". Along the same line, how many Arnie, I suspect that part of the reason you haven't gotten any response to your question is because part of the list is now busily trying to figure how they can stalk, erm, casually meet up with Ms. Wilkins after a show. And I ask this question in all sincerity: would an unknown male somehow be intrinsically better than Ms. Wilkins, someone who is clearly very familiar with, if not fond of, the music of Mr. Ferry, et. al.? I quote from my usual road map out of insanity: `Take some more tea,' the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly. `I've had nothing yet,' Alice replied in an offended tone, `so I can't take more.' `You mean you can't take LESS,' said the Hatter: `it's very easy to take MORE than nothing.' Which is to say: how do you know you won't like something you've never had? And please note: I do not ask this merely to play "Who Wants To Be A Wiseass?" I saw Ferry in Philadelphia on the same tour, but don't think she joined him on stage there. I did see her walk across the stage wearing a long fur coat at the Calderone Concert Hall on Long Island while the roadies were getting the stage set for Roxy. This would have been early '76, during Roxy's second Siren sweep. I also had the odd luck to be having a business lunch in a small restaurant on 23rd St in Manhattan (called "Jerry's Place), when Ms. Hall, very pregnant, came in with her entourage and a camera crew to do an interview. Her crew and my group of four were the only people in the place. After the interview was over, she came over to our table, and apologized for any inconvenience she may have caused. As for your other question about any female musicians on tour with Ferry, Ann O'Dell played keyboards on the "In Your Mind" tour. (Things slowed terribly once Reecey received confirmation there'd be no harp and unsubscribed, and, well, RED's still off on vacation...) > Which is to say: how do you know you won't like something you've never > had? Who, Arnie? Biased in matters Jobson? Pshaw. But no, Arnie, I'm not bothered in the slightest -- I've nearly worn through my copy of the Cirque Royal tape, starting right about 2/3s of the way into OOTB. I regret only that I was unable to make it to any of the post-US leg shows to see this in person, and am thrilled at the near certainty of Nightingale being in the set. Then again, I simply don't view this as her "take[ing] EJ's place in the band". She's a terrific violinist, period.
