Mostly I find info on Harry Chapins song, which is a different song of course. It sounds like an old Motown or R&B song. Has Bryan ever stated what recording artist was the inspiration for his cover? If I can find out who, I will seek out that version just to compare. Finally I was thinking of sticking a sign out that says Avalonians on the park next to the Greek Theatre for Roxy's show in LA. The wife and I are taking the day off and will be arriving early as it is on Monday night, and as anyone who has spent any time in LA knows, the traffic is murder here. I'm afraid it's impossible to just 'tree' the Videos, as this is a project that has been going on now for almost a year, at a high cost to a few Avalonians who have given their time, work and money to get the project underway, and it would be unfair to leave them out of pocket because of that. I will explain : A few of us got together during the tail end of the ATGB tour last year, with a view to attempting to produce a Video for fellow Avalonians including rarely seen Videos or TV footage. There was however a few 'clips' which were thought to no longer exist - real 'rarities' as it were, and we set about trying to track them down. We were fortunate, in the end - we found quite a few, though this did involve much Internet time, letters, phone calls, Video swaps etc etc... - indeed we have only managed to gather in some of the appearances in the last couple of months alone - it really has taken that long. Slowly we gathered various footage from all over - UK, USA, Japan, Australia, France, Germany, Poland... enough certainly for 2 Videos, not just 1. We then sat through over 100 hours worth of material from many Avalonians personal video libraries- sounds like fun, but not so much when there's 20 odd versions of the same song/appearance - some good quality, some bad - some 2nd generation, some 10th ! The biggest problem was sorting it all out, and extracting what would hopefully be the best quality clip for a Video for our fellow fans, with a good mixture of both 'live' and other clips from all over. Then it was a case of 'mixing' in a Video edit suite to put it all together neatly and professionally (still going on now !) not to mention some audio remixing to be done at the same time, for certain tracks which needed more attention, due to either age, or the generation of copy. Then - the artwork for the covers. We don't (well, no-one does) want some cheap photocopy cover - we wanted to do this properly, with a glossy, classy cover, proper Video box, the whole package. It has all taken time, and money, since May 2000, precisely the reasons why this cannot be just given away - we have so many costs to cover now, as I'm sure you all will understand. Add to this, we felt it vital that the length of each Video was not longer than 2 hours - purely because this would mean, in the NTSC format, it would still be in 'standard' and not 'long' play for our USA and Canadian colleagues, therefore ensuring them the same video quality as the rest of us would have. Finally, we decided on getting the 'Masters' of the Videos we prepared all run off by a separate Video production company, not the cheapest option, but it would ensure that everyone would have 'first generation' Videos - and not copies which could, once again, lose quality. It is a risk, certainly, as we know we need something in the region of a minimum of approx 120 - 130 orders just to break even on the project - but it's something we all felt should be done properly, if at all. Therefore, I once again enclose the original posting to the list concerning the 2 Videos which we have prepared (with apologies to those who have seen it several times !). Finally, I thought it a good idea to post this reply back through the 'list' just in case there was some who misunderstood why this couldn't simply be a 'tree' item... Original post below... - ----------------------------------------------- >>>>>>>>>>10th April, 2001 :>>>>>> Dear Avalonians, As promised long, long ago, the much talked about Strandpower Video productions, 'A Rhapsody Divine', and 'Penthouse Perfection' will be available shortly. Some of you will already have seen a preview of some clips at the 'A Mad Affair' party back in February. They are both compilation Videos, arranged chronologically, featuring many rare and unseen 'Live' and TV appearances from Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry, around the world, from 1972 - 2000. Our 'gang' have spent a considerable amount of time recently locked away in a Video editing suite, while others slaved away over a hot PC, producing glossy cover designs and inserts for the Videos themselves. Most of the tracks are excellent sound and vision quality, and a very small amount are not as Hi as Fi can go, but are included for their genuine rarity value. More details of the Videos later, but firstly how to order these items... Obviously, we are paying a Video company to run off the numbers required, whether VHS Pal or USA NTSC, which we have pre-arranged, so we do ask you to get your orders in by May 14th at the latest, so we know where we stand. We then will be able to mail the Videos out to you in the last week of May, for you to peruse before many of us meet up at various stages of the Roxy Tour. Here goes , first of all, prices for the 2 x Video set, total running time approx. 4 hours, (with all postage and packing costs included !) : UK : 20 Pounds Europe : 22 Pounds USA, Japan, Rest of the World : 24 Pounds. OK, how to pay for these screen dreams : 1) Send a Cheque, or IMO, payable to STRANDPOWER, to : Strandpower, Listen, 144 Crouch Hill, London N8 9DX, U.K. OR 2) if you prefer to pay by C/Card, call me at work, on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, 12 Noon to 6pm, on (020)8342 9633 (or 44 208 342 9633 if abroad) and I'll put the payment straight through - and you will be given your own reference number when ordering. We can also provide you with an email receipt if required. Do remember to let us know if you require your Videos in either VHS Pal or NTSC format. Orders in by May 14th at the latest please, to receive your Videos by the end of May (otherwise you'll have to wait until October/November 2001 - which will only be a '2nd batch if required' situation). Please note : No Videos will be sent out during the Tour, as most of us will be 'on the road' as it were, so ordering in time is important ! Orders received by May 14 will be despatched in the last week of May... Well, they've been about a year in the making, but we knew we'd get there in the end... As ever, this is a non-profit exercise, and is, of course, a Strandpower production for Avalon. Enjoy.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #152 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
