This is the Glasgow Jury calling. Well we've been up all night (again) party time wasting .... And so it was that the little band of happy Glaswegians got together for a night of Roxy revelry. The same old scene of the Tron Theatre Bar provided the venue. In attendance were John Fulton (JFROXY) and his pal Hugh (who doesn't like ELP AT ALL) delightful Diane Whateley, my two bruvs Mark and Raymond, Graeme Fairlie (lurker extraordinaire) and his pal Robert and last but not least Gardner Muirhead fresh off escorting a school bus trip to Barcelona and back. Barcelona ain't near the dear green place. Here was a man who was desperately in need of a red wine. And of course, also present, that well-known Amanda Lear impersonator, your divine author, Mmselle. T herself. Cougar was parked outside. Glasgow cops noticed nothing unusual about this It's still the same old story, all politeness and 'so how did you get into Roxy?' type conversations to start with. However, the gauntlet was thrown down 'Fave Roxy trax' started it. Your author said "from the later period, 'To Turn You On'". Someone said 'Avalon's just an album of Ferry b-sides' Mmselle. T's (perfectly shaped) eyebrows arched. Frankly I had friends to impress. Everybody else got their claret cups off the table and ran for their coats at the same time. Fighting broke out. But Graeme knew how to distract a crowd as fur, spangles, handbags and sequins flew and lustre was lost. He yelled 'So what does everybody think of Mamouna then?' It's a military move of Napoleonic brilliance. The enemy are taken by surprise and outflanked. Supplies are removed (by an Avalon fan holding the kitty) and since NOBODY agrees with ANYBODY on this album, bitter but short-term in-fighting breaks out. Then we all get hungry and ask for the menus. Lots of simmering and shimmering ensues and lots of post-mortemising of albums, A Mad Affair and so on. People threw Raymond's chips around. Actually no they didn't, they ate them (Raymond insisted I put this in.) Lots and lots of alcohol slushed. But was that enough? Oh no. Darkness fell. The lights were dimmed, the search for perfection had to go on. But who knew where? Robert said 'my place' and declared that it was his party in fact. Maybe it wasn't bungalow ranch style but a pied a terre in the Merchant City ain't bad going. I imagine that Robert no longer lives there following nuisance petitioning from his neighbours. Acapella versions of 'Carrickfergus', of the violin solo in Out of The Blue'. You know yourselves which classics deserve to be featured. I sneaked on to the decks and we all got the benefit of 'All I Want is You' and 'She Sells'. Nobody was stopping the dance and the floorboards were brave. Our starry eyes shimmered at the DVD player. Gardner complained that I got lyrics wrong in my beautiful contralto and was later spotted mopping a wound on his head saying 'What did you say about my old worlde charm?' Et aujourd'hui pour nous? Quiet. The Easter egg purchase with 3 zillion screaming children in Woolworths was a barrel of laughs. You can guess the rest. Great to see everybody there last night and look forward to seeing you all at the gigs. For those of you coming to Glasgow for the gig on the 11th? Be afraid. Be very afraid. Cities will change but obsessions..... Cheers Fashion House Lady Mmselle T. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 20:52:43 -0400 From: "Grant Goggans" Subject: [AVALON] Roxy boots in Georgia Hey everyone I spent yesterday and today in my old stomping grounds of Earth's greatest city -- Athens -- to see the wonderful Set on Edge and thought I'd give a heads-up to any- and every-one out there about some neat stuff I found in the Classic City. Low Yo-Yo Music, located outside the Fabulous 40 Watt on Washington St, has rearranged to cram more stuff in their shop. They now keep whatever artists they've got in abundance in these long Rubbermaid tubs stacked on a tall set of racks. I was pleased to see, along with two tubs for Zappa and one for Crimson, a tub labelled ROXY ENO CLUSTER. I don't know the first thing about Eno shows, but they had more than I've ever seen, including rehearsals for that June 1 1974 thing with Nico. But the interesting things were some Roxy stuff, all nicely priced from $13.99 - $18.99 each: Re-Bubbles -- BBC sessions, cover is an airbrush painting by Olivia whassname of a sexy nurse forgot the title, but I think it was either Chance Meeting or a rip of it-- BBC sessions, cover is black with a photo of Eno, Phil and Andy Street Life -- bits of Bremen shows from 1973 and 74, cover is a bland brownish greenish orangeish tone of Bryan (who names a boot after an already existing hits album anyway?) Golders Green -- this version I got recently, '99 show with moody cover from the '99 Dazed and Confused photo shoot. I had all those in some other form or other; I just got an inexpensive Bowie show instead. (Crazy fact: darn near every single disc boot in the shop was cheaper than the $20 they were charging for a Ryko Man Who Sold the World.) And the other Thursday I went by the CD Warehouse in Buckhead, and somebody'd dumped a good few things, including the same Golders Green disc, a text-label King Biscuit show (Philly 79), Why Do You Think I'm a Funky Chick?, and the First Kiss with the weird "stretchy" photos of Phil and Andy, each of them $25, except First Kiss which was $40. So 'fess up, anyone among us come up short for rent last month and need some extra cash? What's the sudden source of these things? - --G. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 01:53:10 +0100 From: gardner@onmail.co.uk Subject: [AVALON] =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Re:_=5BAVALON=5D_Letter_from_a_northern_town?= Hi y'all still fcked from a day of bus and a night of booze - but would like to respond to the lovely Therese's message first by apologising for my complaints about her lyrical mistakes - and secondly by thanking Robert - in the absence of vino tinto - for filling me full of vodka and coke...I seemed to have lost all track of time over the last few days and after friday's bus nightmare the booze binge was the perfect cherry on a very hazy cake.
