You said he was Ginger Baker; I always thought that was Mick Fleetwood. He also did Neil Young. My favorite by far was Ron Mael, a real stitch. When they finally emerged, they hopped right into the waiting limo without stopping to talk with anyone. Totally spontaneously, my friend and I ran to our nearby car and discreetly followed the limo for 20 minutes to a hotel. The band immediately disappeared into the elevator and my friend and I took up a quiet station in a corner of lobby. After an hour, the band came down to talk to a few reporters and local friends. My friend and I politely schmoozed our way into the proceedings and actually had the opportunity to talk with the various members for a few minutes. One would probably have to be very lucky for something like this to work, but i've always loved telling this story and thought others might enjoy it! If you can find out where they're staying and hotel security isn't too tight you can usually hang out. That said, most bands have people that run interference for them to make sure people aren't stalking them. Nothing quite like being grilled about who you are and why you're in the hotel by someone and then physically tossed out of the hotel. It hasn't happened to me, but I've seen it happen more than once. - -Rob At 09:35 AM 04/12/2001 -0700, you wrote: >In 1979 on the Manifesto tour, a friend and I waited out back afterwards, >hoping to have a chance to meet the band. In 1995 on the Mamouna Tour and on the more recent As Time Goes By Tour. I just waited outside the stage door and was lucky enough to get his autograph both times. The second time, similar to the encounter described below, Bryan was sat on the bus. He had a 'bodyguard' type person with his arm out keeping us back from Bryan. However, he did sign autographs and he wrote 'To Tracy' on it when I asked him. He also shook my hand. If you get the chance I would definitely try to meet him after the concert. If you can't get a backstage pass then the stage door or his tour bus are the best places to wait. Be prepared to wait for about an hour though. I waited an hour in the freezing cold with my feet so cold I thought they were going to drop off, but it was worth it.
