I finally got Concrete's Blonde's Bloodletting (1990). It was the first album I've really enjoyed in a long time. It has goth rock via Anne Rice, the punk-speed thrash of "The Sky is a Poisonous Garden," R.E.M.'s Peter Buck adds mandolin to "Darkening of the Light." The most well known song was "Joey," which actually got some top 40 airplay. The best thing about this album was Paul's ability to shine through and bring back those cherished memories of the Roxy I loved. - ----- Original Message ----- From: thom.wallace > "it must be TGPT", but just how many of the people shouting for this have actually heard him play over the last 20 years. ===== Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! UK I'm very disturbed by the recent outbreak of prog rock on the list. Whilst I've been aware for a long time that there was an isolated case in the south, I had hoped it had been isolated, unfortunatley it seems to have spread elsewhere. Symptoms include a tendency to drone on about long forgotten bands& talking in a strange tongue, eg. "Disembowelled dandelions manoeuvred sliding reflecting fish, while Penguins reach painfully for the orchid sky" whilst a group of mediaeval monks chant on aimlessly in the background. A 5 mile no go area around all infected creatures has been announced, in tandem with the inevitable cull or vaccination of the sad misguided people who worship at the door of prog rock (amazingly these people actually ENJOY concept albums!) For the not to bad cases I think a dose of Dr. Feelgood should suffice, for the more seriously infected I recommend the Clash's 1st LP played at maximum volume., if this doesn't work try Crass ( but please only with a medically trained person nearby). The Prime Minister has agreed to postpone the election until the current outbreak is under control, remember we thought we'd killed it off in '77 , don't let this happen to you.
