You can read the text of the press release at http://www.manzanera.com/RoxyArchive/RoxyMusicTour2001/pressrelease.htm There will be no new Roxy Music album, there is yet another rumor of an original Bryan Ferry album to be released in the fall, and this is a one time reunion tour, with 50 fixed dates, with rather high ticket prices (at least here in the United States). I used to have a connection at Madison Square Garden (actually for any venue in NYC) back in the 70's that was "connected". We would actually be taken into MSG through the bowels and escorted to the stage where we would sit in the first few rows-many times without tickets. The ushers were all taken care of and no one ever bothered us. Because of this my friends and I were able to see hundreds of concerts-sometimes 3 or 4 a week (sometimes 2 in one night-an early and late show). We would have never been able to afford it otherwise. When I was even younger we used to get into the Fillmore East for free. We lived in the neighborhood and got to know the tickettakers. At first they thought it was cool to let in these 12 and 13 year olds into this den of pot and rock and roll. Eventually we got to know them and it became a common thing-we would go in to see anybody-even if we had never heard of them. I saw Miles Davis this way (which kind of changed my life). I also saw the Velvet Underground this way (not at the Fillmore but around the corner at a place called The Dom)-which also changed me. I think I saw the Velvets at the same time that Sugar Sugar by the Archies was No.1. What a shock!! ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 08:32:00 -0600 From: "Jankiewicz, Jim" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Going to Mpls in July!! I went for the $44 seats In The Balcony (yes!) to better overlook events and sightings. Overall, you could say that perhaps pricing goes with the territory, i.e., NYC is ~50% higher, but I see the Toronto is relative to the Mpls prices. Sometimes the "medium" seat are fine. I don't suppose I am much help here but I did find a way to get good seats which I hope is helpful. OT: Mick Ronson: someone mentioned his tragic end - I know he died young in the 70/80's but would someone care to ramble on with the particulars. They were the group [mid-70's - 1980 or so] that Robyn Hitchcock went solo from. He always had a love of Roxy Music and has performed a cover of "More Than This" as well. His sound is worlds away from Ferry & Roxy but I like it. Tuneful, twisted pop with a sometimes gentle, sometimes manic psychedelic edge. Try to sample some first. I've never actually heard The Soft Boys but I'm assuming they're not radically different. RH has been a fan of Roxy and Bryan for quite a long time, but his own writing doesn't show it much, though I've seen him cover 'Avalon' and 'Oh Yeah' at solo acoustic shows. Possibly a better place to start than the Soft Boys would be his 'Element of Light'. The Boys were very into paranoid/surreal psych-pop; think Syd Barret with distorted guitars and some Beatles & Byrds for flavor. Having said that, the SBs are touring the US now for the 1st time in 21 years and are doing one a wonderful version of 'The Bells of Rhymney'. avalon-digest wrote: > Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 09:52:24 +0100 > From: "Simon Galloway" > Subject: [AVALON] The Soft Boys.... Was this the tension that caused Eno to self-eject from the group? It wasn't Ferry that drove the girls wild in the early days, it was Eno??? ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 17:35:20 From: "mark shanahan" Subject: Re: [AVALON] chicago update-o-rama >From: "Peter Seely" >Here we go again! It's an enhanced CD with 5 songs/performances you watch on your computer. One of the songs (Editions of You) has a very glammy Eno dancing around-he is dressed up in his famous peacock feathers outfit. Very hysterical. Just for fun I went onto TicketMonster to see if there are any seats left. I was able to bring up 2 seats in the upper level (306) and pretty far off to the side. I asked for the next best seats and was given same row different seats. So it looks like it's NOT sold out yet. This is a little surprising as the MSG Theater is not that big. As long as I have my tix I'm happy. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 10:53:01 -0800 (PST) From: cecilia Subject: Re: [AVALON] Roxy Music in Belgium On June 29th they're playing in Munich, as far as I know. they will hardly be in Belgium at the same time. :-/ Waiting for the italian gigs to be announced, I'm planing to be at the Munich show.
