From: http://artists3.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/The_Delusions/ Spencer Mallinson is a musician a good musician a musician's musician. Spencer's musical path started at the very young age of three. His hard-working father loved music and had a Big Band in England around WWII. Coming to America in the early 50s and starting a family in 1951, Spencer's father would bring home instruments from the many musicians he knew for his son to play with. It took a long time for Spencer to finally choose the guitar. In 1965, guitar became his life. Spencer would practice so late into the night that he was often woken up by his mother in the wee hours, after falling asleep with his guitar still strapped on. He played in many local Florida bands in the late 60s. He then made a pilgrimage to England to try to become a successful musician. Spencer played there with Roxy Music and with Lake. Back in the States, he toured with Wayne Cochran and the CC Riders, The Hotlanta Band, and Blanco, among other groups. Spencer's incredible guitar mastery proves that all those years of practice and playing really paid off, as he continues to amaze any audience lucky enough to hear him. He is currently writing songs for The Delusions' upcoming release. Due to laws regulating ticket sales in the State of Massachusetts, the seller in this auction will not accept any bids above the total value of the tickets plus $2.00/each. Do not bid more than this amount. Bids that exceed this amount are void and will be canceled by the seller. The seller will end the auction if, and when, this price is met. These $80 face value tickets were purchased through a ticket broker, and the actual price with all applicable taxes, convenience fees and surcharges is $200 each ($400 total), so your maximum bid can be no greater than $400 for both seats. The Horizon changed it's name so as not to be congused with the Rosemont Theatre. I mention this trivia because I think a trend is developing here. At first we thought our Boys would play Madison Square Garden (36,000 seats) only to find that they were playing MSG Theatre (5,500 seats). Then in Boston there was the Fleet Center/Fleet Pavillion confusion. It is my theory that they are not actually going to play the Allstate Arena (all 34,000 seats of it...) but are going to play the Rosemont Theatre, just up the STreet (5,200). I can't help it if my wee-hours image of MSG is spotted with memories of circuses and rock shows where light-up doodads overpowered the scene on stage. I was also on a rental internet access computer, paying by the minute, and had not had the time to precisely read the Avalon digests that had accumulated while I was busy with work. However, I stand by what I said! The only times I have felt intimate at the Garden were times I was actually sitting ON the stage (or the bit behind it, by the backstage entrance.) Okay, one Erasure concert when I had 8th row center. But think of EVERY seat--have some compassion! You can hardly see the performers from anywhere else, and sorry, but I would like to SEE 'my' Roxy show and hear it a bit more richly than I would at the regular Garden. I am THRILLED that they are playing the smaller venue there (excuse my extreme oversight, please.) Now I might make a special trip to go. Oh, and I, like Tim, would also enjoy a bedroom performance. No, I'm not in touch with any of the Chicago Avalonians, as I'm a newcomer to this site. If you haven't visited Paul Thompson's site, I encourage you to do so. Between myself, Kuma (another Chicagoan), and many others, there's some funny and provocative discussion. Tickets are supposed to go on sale either Sunday or Monday. Kuma and I will be there, wives in tow. We are bigger fans of the early stuff; they like the later stuff. It's too bad about Cleveland. For one thing, they're a deserving town. For another, I have a radio broadcast recording of the '79 tour, and it's probably the best performance I heard from that tour.
