Hi Heather and all, Glad to see that Madness In My Soul is back up. It's the best site for the casual fan I think. You might be interested to hear that an article in yesterday's (Sunday's) New York Daily News featured the following article which contains mentions of both your web site and mine, as well as the official sites: Roxy Music brought sophistication, wit and romantic longing to glam rock in the early '70's, influencing countless bands in their wake. Initially clad in leopard-print and lame, Bryan Ferry and his boys created an aural Pop Art collage of musical styles on their first three albums. Ferry's croon, Brian Eno's keyboards, Phil Manzanera's guitar, Andy Mackay's sax and oboe and Paul Thompson's drums made for a heady brew---which made Eno's early departure because of creative differences particularly regrettable. During the 1980's, Roxy lost their original bite as they turned into a glossy pop band with disco hits. Ferry has enjoyed a successful solo career, mostly recently with his collection of cafe society standards, 'As Time Goes By'. Die-hard Roxy fans, though, are rejoicing that Ferry, Manzanera and Mackay have announced a world tour for the first time in 18 years. Roxyrama.com offers links, lyrics, and biographies. The site discusses the band's controversial album cover for 1974's 'Country Life', which pictured models in see-through lingerie and was pulled from the stores. Click on 'Miscellany' to find 'Assorted Roxy-ana and Ferry-phernalia'. Discuss the upcoming tour at 'Interactive' ('Any backup singers MUST be scantily clad', insists one fan.) At thewebgal.com/roxymusic , find bootlegs, photos, and links to other Roxy sites. 'Open up exclusive doors' on the 2001 tour dates at bryanferry.com. Read news about Ferry and his albums, as well as the transcript from the first ever Ferry Web chat. Go to bryanferrydirect.com to buy t-shirts and albums. Manzanera.com is one of the best Roxy sites. Click on 'Roxy Music Archive' for the band's history and bios of the ever-changing lineup of musicians. There's info here on the tour schedules for Europe and North America and on which press organizations will be attending conferences. Read about Mackay at sierrabravo.co.uk/roxysax, where there is a discography of his solo albums. Original Roxy drummer Thompson has a site at pauldrum.com . Eno, the dean of ambient music, has retained a loyal following, which is best served at Enoweb (music.hyperreal.org/artists/brian_eno). ----Amy DiLuna Looks like we are in the big time now. I'm not sure quite how I managed it; I first went in and asked for best available, which gave me a side section halfway back (107) - and which I proceeded to buy. There is information afoot that the Cleveland date may not materialize. At the moment this is still in the rumors stage but I can only summarize one rational reason being the close geographical proximity of the Detroit date. This would follow as the sudden addition of the Minneapolis date being further west to help satisfy more venues / dates that were a bite more geographically spread out. Also I will note once again there are FIVE FULL DAYS between the NYC and Detroit shows. This is the largest gap in the North American tour. This could be looked at as ample time for another stop, but I think it more than likely means we are in store for more than one NYC show. At the end of abbreviated roster you will once again find the complete listings with venues and their corresponding phone numbers. This list has not changed since my last such post on Thursday, March 15, 2001 11:44 PM but is supplied for members who may still have some questions. Regards John Dillon >> Hi, This is my first post to the list. I am from Cleveland. I hope the rumors are not true about the Cleveland show. My theory was that the city/radio stations would make a big event about a Roxy show here as they did the last time Roxy was in town. It was billed as a "homecoming" if my 41 year old memory serves me right. It had the local radio stations going crazy to promote the show. I kind of thought that might be the delay with getting all the details "right" with the Rock Hall folks, etc. It would be disappointing to hear Roxy Music would pass up one of their major strongholds and one city that still supported the band fanatically by selling out shows when they couldn't in other cities. Still hoping & waiting for a Cleveland announcement! Thanks, John PS-Please note that no Cleveland show will not prevent me from seeing them2-3 times on this tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am hoping to show some friends (that didn't follow the band in their heyday) how great they are. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 14:45:01 -0800 (PST) From: Maggie Curran Subject: Re: [AVALON] Still feeling abandoned Bill, Of course, we are upset that Roxy isn't playing in the South! (if it could compare w/the original). i'm watching the credits and, though i was never a burton fan, was surprised to see loren taking top billing. then i saw that it was a carlo ponti production. suffice to say, not as genuine, but rather awkward comparatively speaking. none of the edgy mystery, nor chemistry between actors. i'd recommend a pass. btw, both 'in the mood for love' & "house of mirth" were very interesting films out currently. both working on several levels, various unseen, unspoken ... feelings, taboos, the latter dealing with something rather like socal barbarity in upper crust turn-of-the-century NYC. i see at least the detroit date has nothing but LAWN seats now, which they weren't going to be selling unless pavillion sold out ... simonG had a tremendous idea re: opening numbers. 'pyamarama' is absolutely one of my faves and i could definitely see them opening with this (well, if they have ANY sense whatsoever). another that would be really interesting would be 'manifesto'. i'm hoping, generally, that they will play some oddballs, such as 'strictly confidential', 'true to life', etc., etc. i'm not sure i'm in total agreement w/manzanera.com's songlisting. Greek Theater ticket prices The Greek Theater schedule was in yesterday's Sunday LA Times. Roxy's ticket prices are: $93.50 $68.50 $53.50 $33.00 + $5.50 service charge, each I spent half the day copying and distributing the schedule to co-workers to try to hustle up takers for six different shows by this weekend, so I can get back into the subscriber series. Until last year, I was a subscriber with 17 years seniority status at the Greek. I let it lapse last year due to a suck-y schedule and lack of interest in ANY of the shows in the initial start-of-season offerings. If I knew then what I know now, I would've bought cheap, single tix for 6 shows and wasted them, just to have kept that status. Now it'll be starting over at the bottom of the subscriber food chain, but it still is better than when they go on sale later, to the general public.
