Why they could not have left some tickets up front open to the general public is beyond me. When I got my Ferry tickets for the Opera House a few years back I was able to get 7th row through the tradtional methods. I also got 1st row seats to see Joe Jackson next week at the State Theater. DTE's motivations are obvious - money, money, money. Screw fairness. Yes, I'm bitter. It would seem that the artists could possibly exercise some control over this situation, or chose to play a more fan friendly venue. And here's a few short reasons why that is the case IMHO It was the first Roxy album I bought Overall the collection and variety of songs is the strongest they ever did - no real duds. Side One of FYP is near perfection but Grey Lagoons is a bit weak. The ensemble playing is so powerful and so dramatic. Mr Jobson had found his place and they utilised his skills to the fore (By the way, is the OOTB solo at the end EJ or PM). Messers Mackay, Manzanera and Thompson took the bull by the scruff and were at times exuberant and tender. JG's bass is also a prize not to waste. They had matured beyond recognition. Everything after Cl got too smooth. That not to say I don't enjoy some of the later stuff. Live they were at their peak. I like MTT too. I'd rather fallen out with Roxy Music over F+B (won't have it in the house!), but repeated radio plays of the song won me over. Newmark's drumming on this song is wonderful. I also love the way the keyboards swirl back at the end of the song. BTW, whatever happened to Neil Hubbard? [Anorak aside - I had an old Polish valve radio at the time which sounded gorgeous, especially so on medium wave (AM) with MTT and the awesome Tour De France by Kraftwerk. The radio caught fire eventually. :-( ] David - -- David Squires, Wimbotsham, Norfolk, UK ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 17:15:54 -0500 From: "Linda Epstein" Subject: [AVALON] Re: Soundtracks Wasn't it on 9 1/2 Weeks? > > Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 07:23:57 -0000 > From: "Tara Rogers" > Subject: [AVALON] Soundtracks > > Hey all: > I was wondering what soundtrack(s) 'Slave To Love' was on in the 80's. There isn't a "filler" in sight. Steve Grey Lagoons, weak? get some of that toothpaste that's flying about! Robyn Hitchcock covered it also. (Snip) Interviewer: You were talking earlier about your idea of recording an acoustic version of the Roxy Music album 'Avalon'. Hitchcock: My obsession with Avalon, the last Roxy Music album, spurred my interest in production, but lately I've begun to wonder what the whole thing would sound like on an acoustic guitar with occasional piano in the background. A great song doesn't need dressing up. Well-produced records always get played in clothes shops; in fact I heard 'So You Think You're In Love' in just such surroundings when I was in the States. Bryan Ferry's stuff was simultaneously sophisticated and tacky. I've sung 'More Than This' for some time as an encore - I'd love to hear him do 'Madonna Of The Wasps'. At the same time I wouldn't criticize a record for being "radio friendly". That's the way songs get heard. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 14:51:36 -0800 (PST) From: Maggie Curran Subject: Re: [AVALON] Russian interview tape: NTSC Hi Ida: Nice to hear from you. Yes, I'd like to have the Bryan in Russia tape. And I will send you $7.00 cash plus a mailing envelope. What kind of mailing envelope would you want? Whatever it takes to get your extra video tape from the Millennium Hootenany show is what I will do. Could you please send your address again and I'll try to send cash and envelope tomorrow. Do tell me what kind of envelope, though. Waiting and watching for Roxy tour dates. I'm thinking about Boston or DC, depending on the venue. The smaller the better from my perspective.
