Morning all! While trying to fill the empty hours until they announce the Chicago and Boston dates, I have been cleaning house. I recently acquired a box of photos and papers from my late, Scottish Grandfather, who died over twenty years ago. Last night, as part of the house cleaning, I reached in and pulled out a 'core sample' from this box. There was the rather curious Ben Shawn cartoon from the table cards at my parents wedding, emabarrassing pictures of my mother as a child, a picture of Grandpa with executives of Texaco and Carmen Miranda (!), WWII ration books, and a ticket from a fur shop (looks like its from the late '40's) with the following legend printed on it, three times: Re-Pair Re-Model Re-Dye & Re-Joice then cold store with ANTHONY's Sussex Furriers 35 Western Road HOVE BE FURWISE ANTHONISE! Besides the obvious re-make/re-model reference (I do like the idea of the re-union version being called "Re-Dye/Re-Joice!"), this artifact also plays into the current fox hunting debate. An anorak is someone who knows everything, but when the person looks in the mirror he/she see someone who knows nothing. And then the patient immediately start to internet, make lists about facts only other anoraks want to know, mail that to mailinglists etc. The disease itself is called Anorakxia, the most aggressive form is called Anoroxya, There is a group: the AA (Anoroxya Anonymous) where you can talk with other people who have or had the same problem. You can go to Anoroxyarama.com for more information. Han, (back after two weeks in bed, but thank God no Anoroxya, the last week I was a little bit better and that gave me the time to listen to all my 300 bootlegs and check in which songs the lyrics are not exactly the same as in the original, If you want the original lyrics with the footnotes about the chances, mail me off list) And the Anorak question of the week is: in which BF or RM songs you can hear the ound of one or more animals? ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 23:37:39 -0000 From: "Jane Collard" Subject: [AVALON] Radio 2 Dedication? Thrilled to say that I got my tickets for Detroit this morning, but I also have to vent a bit about the whole experience. I was at the ticket window at 10am exactly with one couple in front of me. The $72.50 tickets were not even available for purchase! It infuriates me that the average person has no access to the good seats at this particular venue! I can only assume that the whole first section is reserved for corporations and radio stations. This is another reason I wish they were playing any where other than the DTE Music Theater. GRRRRRRRRR...................... I just checked at Ticketmaster to see what was available as of 8:00pm today and they are offering row yy. Looks like this show will be a sell out! I do hopefully have some leads on folks who can get their hands on some of those corporate seats, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Sigh. On another note, I had a very Roxy weekend. I went out dancing with friends at a club in Boston. Much to my surprise, they played "Same Old Scene." Needless to say I went screaming to the dance floor. Shortly after they had a video up on the tv screens that appeared to be "Oh Yeah." And to top it all off, I turned around at one point to see a young gentlemen of about 22 wearing a shirt with an image of a feather festooned Brian Eno on it! You would think all of this good karma would have worn off on my ticket buying experience. Oh well! Cheers! I can only assume that the whole first section is > reserved for corporations and radio stations. I had the exact same experience with buying tickets for Roger Waters in Milwaukee for the '99 tour. They (Tickmaster/Promoters/Artists) do screwy things these days when tickets go on sale the first day. It appears that the best seats are not always available on the first day. Sometimes they slowly release these over time, but without knowing when this is going to happen you can't wait forever hoping to get better seats vs. none at all. The ticket reseller agencies in the US are very effecient at getting a lot of tickets. Some people now buy 8 tickets to shows that they are not even going to and then resell them to these agencies. In fact I think we could start a huge debate here on whether this is fair or not. This has been debated at length on other band sites that have been touring over the last ten years. Some groups try to prevent the above legal scalping from happening by forcing the ticket buyers in the first 30 rows to pick up their tickets the day of the show with ID in hand--thus preventing the majority of scalping in the first 30-40 rows. My guess is a lot of people will be pissed off from this list as they try to get good seats by being ready at *10:00am* only to find out they are in row ZZZ. Most commomly heard phrase at 10:02am is "What, you got to be fucking kidding me, row ZZZ and it's only 10:02am!!" If this happens to me this time I'm going to tell them to keep the damn tickets. I refused to watch Roxy in a large venue with binoculars. No way baby!! It's a shitty way to treat the fans but as they say capitalism is alive and well here... Fabulous! I also love the idea of a re-dyed fur (what colour, I wonder? Acid pink?) being put into cold storage. How long was it in the fridge? And what does Re-joice mean? Praise the lord if the re-dye job turns out OK, I suspect. LOL Guy - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of AMeyersLD@aol.com Sent: 12 March 2001 15:20 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] If this is something? Just thought I'd share... There are sections of the interview where it is difficult to understand Bryan, due to the interpreter speaking over him, but there are sections where he can be heard better. Nevertheless, it is 1:45 of watching Bryan talk (and smile). The total tape time is 1:45 The friend who transferred this from PAL, filled out the tape with some stuff I didn't have, namely, Bryan on the 2000 Millennium Hootenany show with Jools Holland. ONLY for whoever includes an address label for the mailing envelope: I'll fill out the tape with whatever fits of those tracks, 15 to 20 minutes worth. I figure that $7.00 would cover the video and mailing within the USA. This video will not be in a case with artwork, just the video box. Interested Avalonians: please contact me off-list and let me know that you're going to order a copy, and I'll send you my mailing address.
