Ho hum. Bye. Laura, mmm, Richard E. Reading a lot of messages about Song for Europe - and thinking about the first live song that caught my fancy..... "If there is something ." The cheesy intro {I love it} and the middle part which has stayed with me since then -{ talking about the album now } - what do all you people think this song is about? - If a film came to mind for me it would be "Seven brides for seven brothers" -that haunting reference to movies about Americana - the musicals that my mother collected magazines and sang to in her teens - The landscapes - the courting - the yearning - Shake your hair girl,,,,,,,, Perhaps it's more obvious than this..... any other responses? ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 00:38:08 -0500 From: "therese" Subject: Re: [AVALON] If there is something? Hi Gardner glad to see you online I love that song and it very nearly made it into my 'lyrics' message. It changes so much throughout. I have always found that to be a really moving song, the closer it gets to the end. I always think it's so reflective and yearning is the right word. It might seem strange but in sentiment it reminds me of 'September Song'. The passing of time thing I think - probably sounds crazy. It hints at the love affair with America which Europe had in the 50s. Cheap high heels, pony tails, clumsy colouring of film. It's like the cine-film pictures often shown of a young Brigitte Bardot. Anyway those are some late and off-the -cuff thoughts. BTW Hope you're well and have recovered from the (stylish I'm sure) ankle injury. Look forward to seeing you in Glasgow at the drinks re-match! I'm a little too new but if anyone did want to meet up.... I am meeting up with people from a list for another band. Especially sine I was listening to "This Island Earth" just this morning on the way to work. I love that Semaphore / S.O.S. opening. Speaking of the tour ATGB: The hair on the back of my neck stood up while at the Beacon in NYC, Nov. 1999 during Bittersweet. Hearing that verse, with the ATGB band "in full swing", gave the song that true dark and twisted cabaret sound and experience. Thanks for reminding me.
