"I'd pay double up prices to see a set without Jealous Guy". Help! Please please me and don't play Jealous Guy, or you won't see me. If Roxy Music absolutely want to perform a John Lennon or Beatles composition, why don't they choose Yesterday? Yes I know, this song is worn-out and it appeals to a mainstream public, but what is the difference with BF's last year's guest performances? A new Beatles rendition would be a sensation; both the wording and the tone fit seamlessly in RM/BF's works; and it would be a nice reference to the glorious days of Roxy Music. Can you already hear the string quartet? Well I guess it can be safely said that the topic of Roxy's Music reunion and Eno's verbal comments with the printed response will not slipping under any of the radar screens without some rancor. This in itself is news because his physical "presence" only existed with the first two Roxy albums. Now add to this: One of these albums have been deemed by many to be Roxy's best ever. ( And of course you know those folks are not be far off. ) But I think, as important as the original discussion is, it was it's bizarrely spinning ancillary threads that began to spark debate on topics that started dealing with the values and core beliefs our very own members. Whew! Did some one say core values and believes? Don't you hate it when some one does that stuff? Skimming past that then: Whenever you find yourself dabbling with this type of stuff, as we have, and doing so in some sort of semi orderly manner, as we have, you simply have one thing beginning to happen. We are a social microcosm becoming an online society with all it warts. The wild, wild west. Well before I go on and get in way over my head about something I obviously know very little about, I will tell you what I can about the main topic itself. The following was relayed to me........ Continued............. I will tell you that the "present" members of Roxy Music pretty much knew and were expecting that Eno would not be interested in becoming involved in any upcoming Roxy Reunion, and they knew this, from what I know, about 12 or so months ago. I can tell you now (today) that the P.M. camp, with Phil being a proponent, contacted the E.J. camp and E.J. about this time last year. The question was basically, "If there WAS to be a Roxy Reunion in the near future ( after Bryan stops touring), would you be interested in joining if a certain producer decided he did not want too?" Remember: The statement you just read has NOTHING to do with the fact of whether J.B. would / will or will not be part of this or any upcoming actual Roxy Tour. But it seems to stand to reason from the above that main "Roxy Trio" either wanted to or felt a deserved obligatory need to give Mr. Eno a chance to show some discretionary interest. Again, remember this was about a year ago. There were many irons in this fire. It was a mere month or two into Bryan's ATGB tour. A tour which many thought would be a firm flop. A cry of: "What? He is going to sing songs from the thirties?", was heard. Phil himself had geared up and released an excellent solo effort with "Vozero". Phil's site also became a mini Roxy Music information hub. This was about the time that the reunion feelers themselves were becoming a bite more formal and fleshed out. Well as we now know this anticipated flop became one of Bryan's longest, most successful and gratifying solo tours. Plus who knew Lucy would be vaulted as doing "such a job" on "Out Of The Blue"? With out having an actual date when this "MAYBE" reunion tour might even occur, you can imagine the logical response ( AT THAT TIME ) from the E.J. camp. Who needless to say is involved in creating and arranging music for a weekly TV here in the states. Plus who would like to be known as # 2 especially when E.J is not. Have you heard any U.K.? Well there you have it. Eno had been. He therefore also had ample time to form any response he might want to express when it eventually became public. So all this being well and good, at this point I would like to hearken back to a post that struck me a while back. It basically asked: When was the last time you actually thought you would be walking down a busy city street, a flood of buzzing people flowing toward to a venue marquee up ahead that said: Tonight, ROXY MUSIC LIVE. And you had tickets? Hmmmmmmmm? Regards John Dillon From: Wednesday, February 28, 2001 8:25 AM "Chris Turner" wrote: > Glasgow Herald - 13 February 2001 Valerie Hannah > > Bryan Ferry speaking: > > . The Bridge of Sighs is the name of a bridge in Venice, Italy, through whose silken waters his gondola might well have been gliding. danny ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #83 *************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
