No they would not. Brian Epstein and George Martin had already discovered
them when they stole Ringo away from Rory Storm. Martin would have brought
in a new drummer for them, like he did with Alan White on "Love Me Do". If
not White some other.
Now Ringo is a very good drummer and I agree with Ian MacDonald's
conclusion in "Revolution in the Head" that Ringo is underestimated.

Where I live is not really relevant as I am going to several of the gigs. Ticketline will issue the tickets 6 to 8 weeks before the actual date of the gig. That means that say for Wembley, they will be sent out some time at the end of April/beginnng of May.
Cheers, Diane

Thanks for the info, Rod. I'll try to get it to four-track tape somehow and
then play it backwards. Still, I'd say Bryan could well succeed in coming up
with interesting ambient works, though you're right, Eno may be the more
revolutionary man here. When discussing this issue, I remember his statement
about lyrics: that with words, you're particularizing feelings and moods.
This may form part of his difficulty in writing lyrics nowadays. Anyway, he
really should put out some experimental works of his - maybe in a limited
edition, with a "no hormone-stimulating crooning" sticker on it. It could be
a CD called "Unparticularized Moods" and The Orb, Biosphere et al. would
express their desire to work with BF... sorry, I'm exaggerating.

Subject: [AVALON] How it really is
I do think people underestimate what some of us go through in preparation
for attempting to get decent Roxy tickets.
In recent weeks, it really has been a 'military operation', with a load of
us all hunched over our phones at home, at a pre-given day, at a precise
pre-given hour, credit cards at the ready.
It was no different this morning, as Dublin tickets went on sale - yes, THE
BIGGIE - Roxy's first Gig in about 18 years.
I was speaking just the other day about what we all put ourselves through in
our quest for the holy grail of good seats, with my good friend Stevesiren.
I received an email from him first thing this morning, which really made me
laugh - because you know, it isn't so far from the truth.
Hope you don't mind me passing this on to the list - it amused the hell out
of me...

Reecey,
I've got this Image of you wearing a headset, standing over a map of
Great Britain, pushing little models of Avalonians about with a stick saying
"we've taken Brum"!
Thanks,
Wing Commander Steve Siren
- ---------------------------------------------------
That's so damn accurate it made me howl.
Stevesiren will be played by David Niven in the film.
Johnny Reece will be played by Kenneth More.
See you on the Tour,
Reecey...

Howard Grimes and Al Jackson of the Hi rhythm section behind Al Green.
And obviously any number of Jazz drummers who've
headed their groups.

But pop music is all about myth, isn't it? The objective truth is that
genuises don't wind up making pop music, and the endless list of pop
'geniuses' is all breathtaking overstatement. So we may as well call whoever
our favourite poppie happens to be a genius, because the word is
debased beyond meaning.
I call Bryan Ferry a genius because I like his stuff, but I'm not dumb
enough really to believe it.

You're reading far more into what I said than is actually there. I never
said or implied anything of the sort. Don't presume to interpret my
opinions, thank you. I find foxhunting barbaric and anachronistic, and have
made my personal decision based on the advantage of living thirty years in
the English Shires, (you now, where foxhunting actually takes place?), not
piously pontificating on a subject I have no experience of from 8000 miles
away. You haven't got the franchise on compassion.
I also don't think that doing a gig for the homeless would in any way
'balance-out' support for foxhunting. There's no 'morality ledger' where
these things are tallied up.
I'm sure that Roxy, or anyone else for that matter, will continue to be
motivated to do things for a whole range of considerations, some good, some
bad. Although you and I might not like it, it's not actually incompatible to
support foxhunting and simultaneously, the homeless. People are after all
motivated to do things for all sorts of reasons, and not all of them are
necessarily the right ones. You'll understand the world better when you
understand that.
I'm sure JFRoxy could have summed this up more far more succinctly...
Chris
BTW, three weeks ago you contacted me off-list with one of the most
sycophantic letter I have ever received, (remember how I was 'salt of the
earth' and 'one of Bryan's greatest fans?') You told me how you were having
posting issues. I spent half an hour writing a solution to your
self-inflicted problems. I see this seemed to have worked. Don't feel you
need to thank me, will you?

>I'm weighing in on this not to flame the fires but rather to respond to
something said by Chris. It was suggested by Chris that Roxy Music should
attend the festival (schedule allowing) because it would be a way of mending
fences with the PC brigade. This implies that the people offended by Bryan's
recent stance, are those who are offended only because it is politically
correct to be offended. This belittles the real hurt being expressed by
those
who are pained by the suffering of these foxes. I for one could care less
whether I'm the last one on the planet to hold these views. It also suggests
that Bryan and Roxy should do the right thing for the wrong reasons. It
suggests that Bryan/Roxy wouldn't attend for genuine Hearfelt reasons ie;
concern for the homeless, but rather to mend fences. This seems like an
awful
shallow reason for his/their attendence. Throw away lines often ring true
