The rest of the band aren't too hot on that show either, Jobson's solo on Out Of The Blue is well dodgy. I shall have to lay my hands on Silk Circles to make the comparison. As for different speeds, quite likely. Most vinyl boots are off correct pitch. My way of sorting that out is to play the guitar along to the original studio recording, make sure that the guitar is in tune, then play the incorrect speed version, adjusting the pitch so that it matches the guitar. He's not that perfect (not in life, that's fine with me even I don't like his conservatism) but it annoys me that he does not treat the Roxy material k4like a jewel. He has written so much fine and inspiring music that we could expect the highest but you can't always be and give the best and yes, money rules the world, even for him. I would have loved a much more dignified tour but we're not the ones to decide this. We have to accept the facts! In my case, I won't go to see them not to ruin my sweet (and better) memories, others might love just the fact to see them again and try to have fun, some to see the band for the first time, I can respect all these decisions. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 08:19:35 EST From: Julialiva@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Nightingale In einer eMail vom 20.02.01 06:29:50 (MEZ) Mitteleuropdische Zeit schreibt epfowler@well.com: << Back in dull and rainy San Fran from sunny London~ Don't worry, it's dull and rainy everywhere at the moment. USA TODAY's critics predicted who will win Grammy Award and who should win. Here's what they said about Bryan's category: SHOULD WIN: "Ferry best matches the wit and unpretentious reverence of the great old-time crooners, but longtime critical darling Mitchell seems most likely to inherit an award associated with established singers." The newspaper got it right on the "should win" business. Let's hope the voters also get it right. We'll know tomorrow night. Pardon me as Un Lurk. Fond greetings to my fellow Avalonians We have the first Roxy Music concert date shot across the North American bow. It is Thursday July 19, 2001 in Camden , New Jersey. Thank you Jan Cees! Although Camden may not be confirming the date at this early stage of the game the people who answer the phones would be last to know. It does give us an anchor point as to when they will be in the Southern New Jersey & Pennsylvania area. To our non East Coast of America friends: It is my contention that this date should actually be considered the Philadelphia and therefore the third stop of the North American Tour. ( Sorry if this thought has already posted. ) The city of Camden, NJ is on the banks of the Delaware River right opposite the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and only three miles as the crow flies separates the two. If this is the case then we have two North American dates to expect before the 19th of July . The first in Toronto Canada and the second in Montreal. That would leave Washington, Boston & New York to follow. Right now I am thinking New York City to be between July 25th and July 30th. This will at least help some of us braving the grand vastness over here to sketch out an early itinerary. Has anyone else heard any thing on the ground locally of tentative North American dates?? How many dates are planned for on the Continent? It seems the European mainland dates will be between the UK and the North America? Ahhhhh Roxy live in the States. I don't think Bryan is a villain. I don't on the other hand see him as some sort of demigod that is never wrong on an issue. I think he has taken an unpopular stance, one that is certainly in his right to take. Now this is coming from an American prism and not a British one, where these hunts are deeply ingrained in the British culture. Animal rights are of a big concern here and MAYBE not so easily pooh-poohed... But then again, maybe my fears are wrong and the press will forget all about this and give him a free pass on this one. As for comments about having it both ways, on that too I must disagree, I think you can support someone while not agreeing with all of their values. I suspect I'll go to the upcoming tour and I know I'll buy Bryan's next Realease when it finally comes out in October. I still admire his music, but I have less admiration for the person. I do like to live by the adage that we can "disagree without being disagreeable". I regret if it didn't come across that way <
