["Andrew Shearer" > Hi all. I've been out of town on business for the last week, so forgive me if I am answering olde news. There was a lovely preview paragraph about this show in last week's New Yorker magazine. (The one with the article about the King Of Ice). Sadly, I inadvertantly left it at the airport in St Louis. Maybe some has this? I don't think its Bryan. I think these complaints sound like projections of someone elses preoccupation. I could hold on to my money and not go. But what would that prove. I would be depriving myself. Why would I want do that? The memories of a splendid night out, I suspect, would be far more precious to most of us. After all, thats all your left with in the end anyways. Isn't it? Mott the Hoople? Doesn't Roxy deserve an opening act that is still alive?). Why not someone different? Why does the support have to be related in Roxy (by sound or era)? Imagination, please. And > you, the braindead, the zombie, the empty shell, you just follow her.... Enjoyed your madness this morning Ton. It is a wonderful song and I'd loved to have heard it on the recent tour. Couple of points : Surely the "friend" that says its time to go is the current beau, "your date says its late time to go," which, I think you'll agree, gives it a futher poignancy. (I shall refrain from inferring the obvious post-Jerry subtext here, but I wonder in that instance which fairweather friends failed to speak, knowing still waters run deep.) The song is smattered with lyrical curios. "The soft paper cup that you squeeze" and "Christmas trees you were sure weren't the sort to build up your hopes and sell you short." Odd references, don't you think ? Out of kilter with the deluxe and delightful musings found in the rest of the canon. Thanks again Ton Martenot ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #59 *************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
