Yes, I also like The Bride Stripped Bare very much. After LOVE ME MADLY AGAIN, my second-favourite song is WHEN SHE WALKS IN THE ROOM: You're visiting a party. Suddenly, out of the blue, there She is: *the* woman of your life, the Princess, the Goddess, the Holy Perfection, The Only One Who's Worth Living For. And here you are: perplexed, nailed to the ground, paralyzed, the blood draining away from your brain, close to losing consciousness. Then, from another planet, you hear your friend saying: Come, let's go. And you, the braindead, the zombie, the empty shell, you just follow her. Outside, you find your senses back: What Did I Do? I spoiled *the* chance of my life, I mean I spoiled my whole life, I'm not worth living any longer, oh... it's worse: suicide cannot compensate the crime I committed. What can I do? Bang my head against the wall: BANG BANG BANG BANG! Aah... feels good... never stop banging... BANG BANG... Oh... sweet pain, please overwhelm the pain in my heart... Sorry, lost control. Looks like an act of my own life. The reunion tour of the sophisticated '70s British rockers will have its North American debut at the Air Canada Centre on July 16, The Toronto Sun has learned. Only specific Ireland and U.K. dates will be unveiled today at a press conference in London to be attended by three of the group's original members --- singer Bryan Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera and sax player Andy Mackay. But The Sun has already learned many of the details -- including the three Canadian dates -- in an exclusive interview with Toronto's SFX Touring president Arthur Fogel. Fogel said the Roxy Music reunion tour will kick off on June 9 in Dublin at The Point Depot arena and wrap up back in Europe sometime in September. Of the North American dates, Toronto will be the first stop followed by Montreal's Molson Centre on July 17 and Vancouver's GM Place on Aug. 3. "There aren't that many dates in America, actually," said Fogel of the arena and amphitheatre tour. "It's likely to be around a 50-show tour, of which 12 to 15 would be in North America. It goes to Australia after it finishes in America, and then back to Europe." Fogel didn't have an on-sale date or ticket prices yet for the Canadian dates, but he expected those "probably sometime in the next couple of weeks." He did say there is no possibility of second shows in any of the markets on the tour. As for the timing of the Roxy roadtrip, 18 years after the band split up, Fogel said the trio -- who will tour with a still-to-be determined bassist and drummer -- have been discussing the possibility for the last few months. "I think that they've all been talking for awhile about doing it and somehow they've come to a window of time that works for all of them." Ferry, a successful solo artist since Roxy Music, was in the news last month when he was a passenger on a British Airway flight from Nairobi that came close to crashing when a crazed man stormed the cockpit. Fogel didn't know if Ferry's brush with death was a factor in his regrouping with Manzanera and Mackay. "I've never heard any talk about it. But I suppose at the press conference there'll be questions about it." Roxy Music, founded in 1971, enjoyed a string of memorable hits throughout the '70s and early '80s including Virginia Plain, Love Is The Drug, More Than This, and a cover of John Lennon's Jealous Guy. "I anticipate it's going to do well," said Fogel of the reunion. "There are certainly a lot of Roxy fans out there and a lot of people who probably haven't seen them that would like to." Founding synth player Brian Eno, now a successful music producer for such groups as U2, is not part of the reunion. "I don't think he was ever approached," said Fogel. "I can't say that for certainty, but his name never really came up." Fogel said the band is looking at putting out a new greatest hits package around the tour, but there is no new Roxy Music album in the works. He also wasn't sure if the reunion tour might be recorded for a later release. Well, hardly teenage anymore, but waiting for retro right-on to come back in fashion - maybe any day now, the year of the diamond dogs or, at least, the return of Roxy retro chic. And I'm able to tell you the difference between a day's work and 'sitting round for 3 hrs then loading a van'... Some may know the price of everything and the value of nothing. I have myself done bar work when I could not afford the ticket price for gigs. I understand the lustre of your suggestion. But no one is going to suggest that it is not exploitation of those prepared to do it? Or that it would make a significant change to the ticket prices? If Elton can charge two monkeys and a pony for his stately homes charabanc, the Roxy guys will pick up as many animals from the menagerie as they can collect while smiling through gritted teeth. Since Roxy's exposure was limited here in the US over the years, I was wondering about the BBC performances that have been referred to in recent posts (Johnny Reece Jan 29, David Firmin Feb 26, Simon Galloway Feb 9, and Jocelyn's Interview Feb 12). It would be fun to see some of the old shows. Does anyone know if there is a listing of the BBC radio and TV shows that included Roxy over the years, and if any of them are available? And looking ahead to seeing them again live (at last!), I would also cast my vote for "Out of the Blue" as the opener (seems appropriate, besides being a great rocker). They've always put on a good show, and I'm sure this one will be too (I loved those shows in the early 80's where they'd just cook for about 2 hours straight - great stuff!). Yes, I'd very much like to see some new material too, but maybe that will follow. As for ticket prices, I think Colleen nailed it, today's shows cost more to put on, and that's what they seem to run these days.
