It's very good and will take a few plays to get into. I was going to bring my own Tom Waits comparison (very difficult for someone *younger* than Simon G) but I've been beaten to it. It's very acoustic instrument proficient - trumpet, banjo, accordian, etc. A little I suspect because they were hanging around, picked up and mastered. On Sunday night at the Palace Theatre, London, Ed H held up a banjo and asked the audience: "I wonder if anyone hear has ever seen one of these?" I gulped and thought: "I'm not THAT old, am I? It's a banjo" - OK, it may have been a ukulele. So the music on Maplewood has the feel of a world weary (at 24) Tom Waits having fun discovering real instruments. Anyone - well, Ivor asked - wondering about the album by Snug can hear samples of each of the first album tracks at their web site www.snug.co.uk There is apparently a second Snug album already From Polar To Solar if you live in Japan. It's being remixed for the UK (what does that involve?) and they're working on album number three if the website is to be believed. Reminds you of the workload Roxy once achieved when young themselves. Maybe Manzo is still involved in their management and is going through the musician's version of Monty Python's Yorkshiremen? "Working on two albums and a solo project at the same time? Luxury! I remember when we'd have been doing sessions on a Quiet Sun album and guesting on a Mott The Hoople single at the same time..." We have got something that has got a HOLE (the bridge that sighs) (incidentally I have yet to hear of sighing genitals, but let's not be trainspotter-ish) and a LONG object (the gondola). So you're right. The example could be discussed further. Incidentally, have any of you ever noticed the references to female homosexuality in Bryan's later videos. A first point of interpretation could be that a relationship like that excludes him, Bryan, the male person - they "don't want to know". In case somebody should get slightly annoyed reading this: hey calm down you gondola you! Psychoanalysis seems very strange to many at first, but it is a very complex matter that has to be carefully considered (and then you'll discover how much of it is true!). I thought you and Kurt were headed to the back door when we left out. I went looking for Kim and we then waited to the see the Maestro. You would have been pleased:very pleased. I'm sure when THEY return you will stick around a lot longer, especially if we have the tuxes on. We have to talk up the show, Avalon, and keeping our collective cool while trying not to gush over them to much. They played the Beacon Theatre on Broadway, complete with Sirens and a giant circular back drop on which they projected the Siren cover (which rotated) and other images. They had a psychedelic light show during Manzanera's solo of Diamond Head. They came back in the Spring of '76 and played the Calderone Concert Hall on Long Island, this time stripped to the bare essentials (no Sirens, back drop, etc.). I suppose they were trying to cash in on Love Is The Drug finally making it onto US charts. I think this very well could have been in March. The photos that were posted last week of Roxy in New Orleans probably would've been from round two, since Bryan was decked out in his G.I uniform for the big tour, and the plain red shirt (and pencil moustache) on the return. What where the dates???? Now I'm really in agony Hi Jas, I saw Roxy twice in Chicago in 1975. February 23, at the Auditorium Theater on the Country Life tour and November 29, at the Riviera Theater on the Siren tour. Somewhere I have a few photos from each show. And yes, those photos from New Orleans would have been from the Siren tour early 1976. I saw them in Kansas City, Austin, and Houston. Also BF was in Dallas (with JH) to do a bit of local promotion just prior to Houston & Austin. A friend found out he was here, called to ask if he could stop by to say hello & took me along for the audience. I have pics from that too but I think I'm kind of blurry, I was shaking so. ;^) Judy ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 06:51:30 +0100 From: "danilo" Subject: R: [AVALON] Sighing bridge Well If I can help U LOL :-)))) literally in Venice it's called IL PONTE DEI SOSPIRI ( bridge of sighs ) the bridge between the PALAZZO DUCALE e I PIOMBI between the tribunal and the jail..... so the sighs were just coming out from the prisoners mouths...
