Seventeen Magazine is, to female pre-teens and teenagers, the equivalent of a combination of, say, Vogue and Cosmopolitan Magazines that are aimed at the twenty plus female crowd. Seventeen has been in publication since at least the late 60's and featured cover models on their, well, covers. I think the likes of Margeaux Hemmingway, Cybil Shepard, Lauren Hutton may have become supermodels of their time because of Seventeen magazine. Of course, I could be wrong about those particulars, but Seventeen was well established as an upscale, in-crowd, fashion magazine when Ferry penned Trash. Well, heck, what's the difference - fashion models and prostitutes have historically been linked as kindred professions. Still it would be interesting to know what Mr. Ferry had in mind. Best wishes. It's from a discussion I had with someone outside of this group. Enjoy...Rod "Yeah. They(Eno/Fripp) were in a small little club at UofPenn. They did some frippitronics stuff, some electric, some ambient stuff, etc. They did a lot of talking, about playing and about other people like ferry and david byrne. At one point, fripp stopped playing and sort of chuckled, and said he had a treat for the audience. Then played a cassette of brian ferry singing crimson man. He said it was an audition for king crimson, but he was kind of laughing so I don9t think it really was. It was wild, schiz man is such a cutting and harsh song the way crimson did it, and there was brian ferry's really melodic voice doing the vocals without any of the feedback effects. There wasn't anyone recording as far as I knew, but there is at least one tape out there, his." ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 07:06:33 +0100 From: "danilo" Subject: [AVALON] Happy birthday 2 (?) The Dutch have a small empire of porn under the banner "17", don't they? Magazine, line of videos etc.? (Er.... so I'm told...) I don't think that was in BF's mind when he wrote the lyric, but I thought it might be in yours, KB. Now I know better, of course. (Here in the UK "glamour magazine" - the phrase you used - is usually a euphemism for porn.) Guy PS: I believe the "17" porn line caters to those with a fetish for acne. :O) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of KB Porter Sent: 30 January 2001 22:55 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: Re: [AVALON] Trash < Didn't know there was a "fashion" mag of the same name. Or do you mean "glamor" as in porn? > Not porn - just capitalistic marketing to budding females.
