An ability not to be underestimated, you sad old pub-rocker S;^) Talking of reference books, I used to have a copy of 'The NME Book Of Rock', back in the day. Anybody remember that 70s tome ? The original was a fat paperback with a lurid ice-cream pink-and-green jukebox cover. Being a sad youth, I actually scribbled corrections to the Roxy/Ferry entries (normally I abhor the defacing of books, but dammit this was important !). I quite literally read that book to pieces... I still have its large-format successor - 'The Illustrated Encyclopaedia Of Rock', now dog-eared and wildly out of date, with virtually no corrections from the original incarnation, apart from the addition of photos and (in 1982) an eighties supplement.......oh, plus the *unforgivable* scrapping of a few key entries, like Gentle Giant ! AND TGPT! This is the show that is used on the Sting Of El Ferranti boot. It was for a Japanese TV show called "the Young Music Show", a series which also featured David Bowie the following year (I had to get that in). The live excerpts of LITD and In Your Mind on "Total Recall" are from this show. Sexy as all hell! Given that I've only heard Marilyn Manson's "Oh arent I such a spooky 14 year old" version of it, I was much more impressed with Bryan's sensual interpretation(there's that word again). The question is: What album was this on? Also are there better(if that's possible) versions out there that Ferry has done? Sombody else may have posted the track listing of theese video tapes earlier, but just in case they didn't here they are. Roxy Music Stockholm '76 The Thrill Of It All,Mother Of Pearl,Nightingale,She Sells,Out Of The Blue,Street Life, Diamond Head,Wild Weekend, The In Crowd,Virginia Plain,A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall. Bryan Ferry (Young Music Show Japan'77). Let's stick together, Shame shame shame,In your mind, Casanova,Love Me Madley Again, Love Is The Drug,Tokyo Joe,This Is Tomorrow,A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall,The Price Of Love. As for the list of songs posted by my learned friend Mr Turner, it's very acurate and the material is of a high quality so much so that I reckon that "This Love" was one of the weaker tracks from the pre ATGB, post Mamouna sessions. Btw, there is also a rather interesting version of John Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Through The Night". The recording of "Don't Be Cruel" for the Sun Tribute album is well worth the wait, it's very true to the original and very enjoable. Sadly I don't have these tracks in my collection though I have been lucky enough to have heard them in the past. To be honest I don't understand why the tracks listed by Chris never got released as there really is an excellent albums worth plus of material in the cans. If it was a case of the record company thinking that it wasn't a strong enough product then I would have to say that the people who make these decissions are either deaf or totally stupid. After years of countless false leads and dead ends in hunting down the whole show, it`s a good bet that a copy just never got out. We certainly would have had it by now had it been leaked. Still, obscure stuff seems to surface all the time so it doesn`t hurt to put out a request now and then......just in case. Or did I dream that... Interesting how the thread of (cult) film titles appears to have continued with Alpha Ville and, more tenuously, Frantic. There's only so much one can garner from a track listing but this grouping has certainly given me something to think about in the frozen chimes of winter. The question is: What album was > this on? Hey Prince. Why not check out a couple of other rare items. There's a song called Mother of Pearl on an album called Stranded and another called More Than This from an early 80's disc called Avalon. Good luck searching. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V6 #26 *************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
