After an awkward return journey taking in 30 hours without sleep, I could not resist the temptation to switch on my video recorder as soon as I arrived home. The recording of the show in question was on tape ! Bryan sung two and a half songs live - with basically the whole band: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Jealous Guy (mini version) and Let's Stick Together. I have'nt read through the Avalon mails yet, so I'm not sure whether this subject has been discussed - but if there is any demand for this tape I would be very pleased to post it to someone. I do not have the equipment to copy video tapes myself, but if someone was willing to put a tape together (as in the past, I believe), then this is certainly worth copying - quality and stereo sound is very good. Otherwise, its great to be back and now I'll read through the 92 mails ! The High Road has become available, in a limited form, on VideoCD, or rather two VideoCD's. This is the same format that Psalm and Valentine were released on. The pack does not include a proprietary software player, but I was able to use MS MediaPlayer to play it on my PC's CD player. I think that hardware DVD players should cope with it though (but don't quote me as I'm not sure - can a techie help out here?) This media is not as high a quality as DVD, but I was pleased with the results, even in full-screen mode. The VCD originated in Honk Kong, but appears from the packaging to be a bona fide release in a series called 'The Music Legends' which includes Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Clapton, Bjork, etc. The packaging is two CD's in a double CD case with inlays and a card slipover sleeve, and is reminiscent of the original High Road packing, but without the image of the girl. Universal is copyright holder it seems. I don't know if it will get a more widespread release, but it's the first one I've ever seen, although I saw a copy on sale at eBay yesterday. Expect to pay around $20 US. I'll put a pic on Roxyrama when I get a chance. I hadn't watched High Road for a while, and didn't have particularly great memories of it, but this morning has reminded me of just how good the playing was, especially Manzo's extended solos on Both Ends Burning and Like A Hurricane, and the nice interplay between the three guitarists. It's a shame that the setlist was a bit staid though - more like the Roxy Music Showband by that time... It was a kind of pull-out photo sheet insert, with behind-the-scenes photos of Macca and his rock star mates(...and Denny Laine), presumably taken by Linda. I don't have it to hand at the moment I'm afraid. Never spotted the Mackay link. This is another one for a growing list of Roxy clones/satires which includes: Paul Hogan (as Ferry in a take-off of LST - this is available on a 'Best Of The Hogan Show' video compilation) Ant and Dec (UK TV presenters who aped Roxy doing Virginia Plain on kids TV recently) Big Train (Another VP satire from the UK Comedy show) Phil Cool (UK comedian who aired a deeply unfunny routine about Ferry's stance being due to wearing incontinence pants) Spitting Image (Ferry portrayed with hair so oily as to soak everyone nearby...very poor...) Is imitation a sincere form of flattery? I don't know about the DVD compatibility aspect - I'm way out of my depth on technical knowledge here... I'm sure that the Valentine was announced as the first of two releases, suggesting that Valentine and Vintage would be of the same type.
