How about the management that got him a record deal for ATGB when even his own record company wouldn't touch him? The management that supported that album to the point of Grammy nomination? The management that organised a 70+ gig sell-out World tour, including the superb concept of the Stately Homes gigs? The management that have arranged a lengthy series of high-profile media appearances - Netaid, Jools, Golders, The Hootennay, Millennium, Nobel, Dylan, Miss World and numerous other media appearances? The management that got him a top 20 album this year(aged 55)? The management that have arranged for him to have a web presence? The management that have helped give him his highest profile for 15 years? The management that have done all the spadework for his next album to be very successful? And all this without mentioning the reunion negotiation shenanigans that have likely been going on behind the scenes. Perhaps you would prefer to return to the halcyon days of management which allowed Ferry to break up Roxy on the point of huge commercial success (this is Andy Mackay's stated view), to hand Simple Minds a US No1 single, to miss a gaping open goal at Live Aid, to bollix up the huge financial backing Virgin gave Bete Noire, and of course the nadir that was the Horoscope debacle, which frankly could have bankrupted him. Ask yourself. Do you think Ferry is an easy guy to manage? Has he always acted in his own best interests? I don't really know who is managing him, I hear the same names bandied around as you do. I at least give them some credit for putting Ferry back in the shop window again. I'm not decrying the huge contribution Ferry has made to his own renaissance, but he hasn't done it on his own. Traditional Pop Vocal Album: ``As Time Goes By,'' Bryan Ferry; ``It's Like This,'' Rickie Lee Jones; ``Songs From the Last Century,'' George Michael; ``Both Sides Now,'' Joni Mitchell; ``Timeless - Live in Concert,'' Barbra Streisand. Can our man win up against the other nominees? Can you imagine Bryan accepting the award wearing his white tux? Can our man win? No. He's in the same category as Babs and Joni Mitchell. Bryan is considered too "obscure" by most of the voters even though he has had a long and very influential career. WE know that, but the "obscure" foreign acts NEVER win. It would be nice though. I hate so say that but I have been following the Grammies for a while and No Bryan nor Roxy have never been nominated for anything. It's sad. If anything he should go to the cermeony and just hang out. One of his fave's Macy Gray is nominated big time for I Try (LOVE that song). Maybe they could arrange a session together. Moby ( who LOVES Roxy and Bryan) is also nominated will probably push and shove to get to him. I would be sorely dissapointed in Bryan if I see a photo of him and Eminen. Now what would they talk about? Bryan and Madonna Ritchie? Yeah I could see that. She's into Brits and thinks she British now anyway. Bryan and Radiohead? Yes. They could talk up the early days, Velvet Goldmine, and Eno who seems to have influenced a lot of Kid A. I hope they win something for that one although I would be shocked if they picked up Album of the Year. It was the best of the ones nominated but again to "obscure" for voters tastes. One of my faves last year. Most curious nominee in the Alternative Music Album category is Paul McCartney for Liverpool Sound Collage. Huh? Paul? Alternative? When then this happen? The Cure is also in this category. I want THEM to win but I think the votes will go to Radiohead. I also would like Bowie, Jill Scott,Wilco, and yes Madonna Ritchie to win at least one award. I liked the Smashing Pumpkins and the Dandy Warhols but they were not nominated for anything. Lots of good points here Chris, although a few rather contrived ones, and one or two frankly fatuous notions too.
