When people on this list offer long, substantive, thoughtful reflections to questions you have asked or to questions raised in the course of thoughtful discussions, they are just that: thoughtful reflections. They are not about you (singular and plural). They are not exercises to uncover the intelligence of specific or generic list members, or to point out that people here are stupid (although some folks here are kind enough to volunteer those discoveries about themselves). And along those lines, a helpful FYI: many people, some right here in Avalon, do not consider it an insult to be called "smart." So, if you are thinking "hey, I'll wait till Xmas is out of the way" - well, that's a bad move !... and you could well miss out. If you're coming - you MUST e-mail me direct at johnny.reece@virgin.net , whereby I'll email you by return with booking details, and I will give you your Ticket number(s) AT THAT POINT. The Venue, 'The Spot' (where the beat's really hot) have stressed to us that it is strictly TICKETS ONLY ADMITTANCE - so don't wait till it's too late... I do need to give everyone their Ticket numbers in advance for this very reason. See you all there ! Reecey... PS The much sought after ticket number ' 007 ' has gone, by the way, to the one and only Martinot. Tough about his cousin Al. If he'd got in we might have seen more Gore on the TV and at the White House over the next 4 years. As it is, the old boy probably won't last til his cuz gets another crack the Oval Office. I'm not sure that using 3-asterisk words is the best way of getting points across, but what the h***. Just read a good article on censorship by an angry comedian. He's in favour of tolerance, but says of the Political Correctness culture, "Ours is a tolerance that is becoming intolerant." This speaks to the arguments "raging" here in Avalonia. Too many younger folks seem to be indoctrinated with the idea that you can't criticise anything, for fear of offending some group or other (e.g. George Lucas fans). It's pretty scary. Since when did making a "value judgement" become a bad thing? Aren't we all here in Avalonia because we think the work of Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music has more value than the average pop material? If this is so, why are some so intolerant of extending that value judgement into other areas? "Live and let live" is a fine credo, and I wish it was really applied more on the larger stage of life. But if my neighbour is playing Celine Dion so loud that I can't avoid the sound, I reserve the right to criticise their taste in music (to my friends, or in Avalonia) as well as asking them to turn it down (to their face). On the level of the wider society, the Celine Dion is just too loud everywhere you go to stay quiet or complacent. For the record, I really liked James Cameron's work before Titanic, especially Terminator 2 and Aliens. Too bad he sailed into the mainstream and hit the iceberg of "good taste"!
