Well at least something.... but from a marketing ploy point-of-view, this should have been on the market a couple of weeks ago - to catch the pre-Christmas purchasing craze and not fogetting the short-term interest of many an "unknowing" human who saw our Man for the first time at the Miss World. The 29th Jan is a long way off..... Any extras on the DVD ? or will this be another plain straightforward package, without the bonus (eg cd "collections") the true fan would appreciate. Best wishes, Stephen ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2000 08:49:57 -0500 (EST) From: Colleen Matan Subject: Re: [AVALON] For Your Pleasure On Fri, 8 Dec 2000, Adrew Howard wrote: > Hi folks. Thanks for Ah. I've been involved in too many discussions in various settings where people didn't know what they were talking about (in the strictest sense) and where defining terms would have been useful, so that's my usual starting point. > I like Tim Kendrick's notion very much: > > " I couldn't lay out a copper-bottomed definition of 'cheesy', but I > take it to be material that was done 'straight' in its day, and which > much of its audience took at face value, but which time has embellished > (in some people's eyes) with a certain kistch allure." I would disagree--this seems much closer to a secondary definition of camp. The passage of time has nothing to do with whether something is cheesy (and believe me folks, it was an effort to resist making the obvious pun there). It's as tacky now as it was then. Kathi Lee Gifford. And kitsch is something completely different--something which is pretetious but shallow and sentimental, designed to evoke a certain response, and it's not good. Think "Terms of Endearment" or "Titanic." Or any book featured in Oprah's book club. Elton John singing "Candle In the Wind" at Diana's funeral. But the most important thing is that These Foolish Things is excellent. This is a word that everyone understands, and that everyone will agree on! All the best, Antoine P.-S.: Boys And Girls is excellent, too. But not everyone will agree here... ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Dec 2000 08:35:25 -0600 (CST) From: MarlanaK@webtv.net (Mary Korfanty) Subject: [AVALON] Re; Colleen's Dictionary Lecture I thought I joined a Fan Club to enjoy, the camaraderie. Though an interesting side question ( not to encourage this digression on AVALON) would be - does a good book become bad simply because the monstrous Oprah Winfrey includes it on her book list? The to my mind unreadable Toni Morrison is seen throughout American academe as well as by Oprah fans as the ultimate 'great' contemporary novelist. Which says a lot I guess about the dead world of American academe... It was the Heineken Night of the promms. Bryan played:Jealous Guy, Avalon, Let's stick together and Slave to love The encore was Hey Jude with all the singers taking one part of the song. It was broadcast by the Dutch and Belgium television. With him was Audrey Wheeler as Backing Singer. Bryan didn't looked very comfortable at that time. It was obvious a very easy way to make a lot of money. You can hear it it all on "all styles served here" (except Avalon.) He did not play 'she's leaving home' as far as I know. The Dutch performance was somewhere in september or early november.
