My dad had a load of old 78 rpm discs full hisses, pops and scratchy sounds. And what tedious hours of fusty old music they contained. Charlie Parker, Prez and Teddy, Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong Hot Fives and Sevens...just dull, dull, dull... Never look back, kids, it was all sooo boring...! Not! :o) Guy - -----Original Message----- Prince of Happiness Sent: 06 December 2000 19:20 >Too true, many youngsters these days don't know what records are. I was in >a "music dept" of a department store a few years ago, and a little kiddie >(5 or 6) was bugging his mum to buy the new Ninja Turtles single (or >whatever): "Mum, mum, look - you can get it on cd, tape... or that other >thingy...erm what are they mum?" >"Records" >"Yeah, them". > >Oh what a sinking feeling I felt inside. *laughs* Myself included! I tried a record once. I got this awful scratching sound. I was scared and promptly put the record away. Such as it is growing up in the waning days of vinyl. The stuff was there for me to use, just I felt I didn't need to use it. I wasn't interested in Mom's records, so...why bother? But now I'm finding that there's some old stuff that hasn't made it over to CD yet, that I'll need a turntable for. Danse Society comes immediately to mind. I know there's more...
