For me, the progression from Stranded to Siren was one of increasingly obvious attempts to modify the band's sound in search of the big US hit. This tarnished their credibility IMHO, though they remained my favourite group nonetheless! Just my POV of course, but I thought it then and I think it now. (From Manifesto to Avalon, it was all a bit more complicated for this fan; commerciality still seemed to be a big issue, but the increasingly confident new sound was just so swoonworthy that it didn't seem to matter. Pop "Art" indeed!) I'll live up to your > expectations: Live in the real world. Really. > This argument boils down to how seriously Ferry should be taking himself. IMO Ferry has taken himself far, far too seriously in recent years. He became a control freak who didn't want to risk anything that might tarnish his reputation. That would be fine except that it effected the music. I like his later stuff but it was sometimes a bit too calculated, too self-conscious, lacking in spontaneity. "Well I hope this is what people want to hear from me at this point..." BF on Mamouna, 1994 The 90's were obviously a pretty humbling experience for Ferry. He doesn't want that to happen again. Why "play with pain"? Just play the (marketing) game instead. He's a pop star after all with a pop art background. Roxy Music's unique formula was the best. They had a lot of fun, wanted to out-sell everyone else, and retained unwavering credibility at the same time. Ferry, who must wonder why he changed such a winning formula, is surely aware that Miss World is tacky. Also true of a Millenium eve concert in Greenwich, the Nobel Prize, Radio 2, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and of course a Jim Davidson stand up show. Releasing an album of 30's and 40's standards in 1999 wasn't the coolest of moves either. But at least he enjoyed doing it, and at least the promotional roundabout, however tacky, guaranteed record sales. A return to the days of yore? Ferry simply doesn't seem to care anymore about his precious reputation, which is great because it has limited him in the past. "Gotta have fun" Nick Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores. Best wishes, KBP I have patiently kept out of your latest attempt to gain attention for yourself, but alas you seem to be as determined to bring attention to yourself as usual. You've voiced this "charges" tripe at great length in the past and because you keep on and on about something does not mean that there are any charges to be answered, or that they have been substantiated. Btw, if any one is guilty of attempting to bully or carryout character assassination on this list then you need look no further than yourself. This list has gained new members of late, it's just a pity that it's your type of behaviour which has stopped the posting of news which would be of interest to them. I'm sure that the majority of the members of this list joined so that they could make contact with like minded people and try to keep up to date with what the former members of Roxy are doing these days. It really is a pity that they have to witness your mindless accusations about fellow list members. I'm sure that the majority of the Actually, the list has been gaining new members for many years now. Why is this suddenly different? And how does the presence of one conversation "stop" news which "would be of interest them" (and presumably the rest of us)? Is there any reason--technical, philosophical, practical, metaphysical--why a diversity of topics, opinions, threads, emotions, and sartorial styles can't exist on this list? Oh, and don't worry--I fully realize these are more questions that I ask and no one responds to. It's not a case of one conversation, it's more the case of anytime information was posted it was followed by a burst of character assasination by a particular list member against myself and someone who isn't even a list member. In the end I came to the conclusion that it was better to convey any news I have to the list members that I keep in contact with off list. > Oh, and don't worry--I fully realize these are more questions that I ask > and no one responds to. > > Colleen You may or may not see my point of view on this one, but at least you got a reply.
