I've noticed the list get a leeeeeeeetle snippy, so to distract everyone(or just end up in the trash bin as usual), I pose this question: How do you do the Strand? ;p *phhhhhhhbbbttt!* The Prince of Happiness "And I'm gone, like I'm dancing on angels, and I'm gone to the crack in the past, like a dead man walking"-David Bowie, "Dead Man Walking" http://princeofhappines.tripod.com/thepageofhappines.html _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. "That Bryan of the Ferry, sentinel of stylishness, the arbiter of all good taste, the incarnation of all things bright and beautiful, the very antithesis of tawdriness, the very epitome of style, he who dances on moonbeams, God's chosen representative on Earth, to be given a mere Earldom is sadly depressing. I'm sadly depressed" the foppish poet continued, cravat quivering in indignation. "He deserves at least eternal life. He should install better management forthwith." "For his Regal Ferryness to have to rub shoulders with the mere hoi-polloi of the Royal Family, in the tawdry and meagre setting of the Palace is deeply upsetting. Surely, is it not, more appropriate for his Floris-scented body to be transcended to the eternal Elysian heights of Mount Olympus, where his blessed and peerless beauty can... In America, Avalonian reaction was less subdued. Washington contributor Colleen Matan reserved her highest form of praise for the announcement: "It's garbage, and they've done it all wrong" she enthused. Across the country, Texan firecracker KBPorter reacted in characteristic fashion: "A portentious stagflation of venal extemporaneous permeance" she said, " The discommodity and senescence of Avalon List is decumbent upon monasticistic approbation" she continued, before adding "Best Wishes" When told of the news, regular contributor Marlana beamed broadly and said simply: "Who is Bryan Ferry?" Over in Holland, wacky funster Han Snijders looked forward to the big day: "Holy Shmoke!" he shouted "For sure, now we gone party!" Customs officials have been alerted. On his return to England after a brief foreign sojourn, veteran DJ Johnny Reece bundled his way through a group of old ladies and trampled over a procession of small dogs, pausing only to wrench open a door with his pen, before adding his congratulations to the former Roxy Music front-man. "Will Julia be there?" he added, lasciviously. Reece was gripping the sixteen page document he had prepared for the Avalon group minutely detailing his own movements for the previous three days. Ivor Canning, 74, was invited to comment, but was dealing with pressing personal business this afternoon and couldn't be woken. Meanwhile, across Swinging London, Ms Jocelyn Fiske, ahem, 29, lit another cigarette, and undid another bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale before slurring: "That's great news....now %@*#&! off!" as she slipped gracefully under her restaurant table, taking the table-cloth and contents with her. Nearby, cheeky cherubic Yorkshireman Simon Galloway, 11, looked thrilled at the prospect of a day off school. "Cool!" he squeaked, "Mum'll have to make me sandwiches!" The investiture will take place in May. An offer by the Palace to add an OBE to the original award was withdrawn when it was realised that Ferry would become an Earlobe. Jackson" Subject: [AVALON] Hello I've been subbed for about a week. It's been nice watching a steady flow of talk about one of my favorite subjects. I was a fan of the band kind of late, having only first heard them when Flesh+Blood was released. I bought the last two studio albums as they were released. I was so hooked on Manifesto and Flesh+Blood that I listened to those two albums incessantly for a while, driving from coast to coast here in the States once with only an old UDXL-II (that I still have) of those two albums in the car for entertainment. I never saw the band live. It was the late 80's before I owned all the band's albums. The 801 live album led me to Manzanera's solo stuff and I love it. Dwell on goofy tiny details of some of his solos. He's just huge to me. Saw Paul Thompson with Concrete Blonde. Now that was cool, to me. So many of the guys who have been in Roxy or side-projects are little Gods to me. Neil Jason, Simon Philips, Eno...trace any of those guys in almost any direction and you hit gold. Anyway, I just wanted to say "hello." I live in Santa Rosa, CA. I was on a Roxy mailing list briefly some time back. 95 or so, I believe. The server didn't stay up very long, as I recall. There were a couple of dozen messages through the list during the whole time I was there. Seeing all this traffic is just lovely. Thank you. - -Rob ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V5 #423 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
