You're being a tad literal, no ? As I said before, the use of the word
poverty is a relative one, and frankly no more extreme than the emotive
allusions to prostitution which have been used. I only mean that it's not
unreasonable for a singer to follow his chosen profession, and it's not
ignoble to be paid for it. The Old Boy hasn't taken a job playing the piano
in a whorehouse. School fees, nice trousers and dinners at the Ivy aren't
free. And where are the opportunities for him to reach a mainstream
audience? You are being far too precious about him. He's just a singer,
albeit a good one. He's not Saint Francis of Assisi. I'll live up to your
expectations: Live in the real world. Really.
