As a wise man once said, > "Alright, so he did Never Mind The Bollocks, but he also did The Lion > King..." from procolharem.com: http://www.procolharum.com/99/chris_thomas_mix.htm British Producer, Chris Thomas as interviewed by Blair Jackson in Mix magazine -late '98: - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- Blair: What do you get from working with a band for five or six albums in a row like you did with Roxy? Obviously something happens after the first album you do with a group that makes them want to work with you again ... Chris: And then by the third or fourth album you hate each other's guts. [Laughs] From my standpoint, the reason I'd want to keep working with an artist is because I think I can still make a good record with them. That's the only reason to do it in the first place, so if that applies on record five, then you do record five, and if it doesn't, and it seems like it's going to be a waste of time, then you don't. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 10:11:24 -0500 From: KB Porter Subject: [AVALON] What Goes On. It was with delight that I read The Sunday Express article which Kicki so kindly placed on her web site. (Thank you, Kicki.) However, I left the article with an unsettled feeling. Shame on Anthony Price! A friend of nearly thirty years, publicly reports that Jerry Hall is The Love of Bryan Ferry's Life! That BF has written to the Humiliated Ms. Hall offering her support! OK. Fine. But what about Lucy Ferry? It has been freely offered and acknowledged her marriage to BF is a bit rocky at times - But at least they are still together! What an outrage! My God, did Lucy Helmore ever stand a chance knowing she is second best - not the love of her husband's life? BF's reported best friend seems to care not for Mr. Ferry's family by making such statements. I feel sorry for Bryan Ferry's sons - They are the ones who have to face Anthony Price, try to understand why Price would disparage their mother and indirectly diminish their importance as sons of the lesser woman - what sort of friend is Anthony Price? Price describes Ms. Hall as "humiliated". An offensive adjective, indeed. Jerry Hall is a strong woman. I venture to say that Jagger was the one humiliated when JH sued for divorce. So why does Price let the world know that BF, who doesn't carry a torch but obviously still cares and doesn't want to see Jerry Hall hurt, wrote to her offering support? To illustrate Bryan Ferry is a perfect gentleman? At what cost. For those who have been warned by anyone in the Ferry camp that some of this list's minor discussions concerning personal detail of BF's life are out of line, take another look. How can the Ferry camp chastise Avalon List without giving the same to Anthony Price? For those on this list who have bought into the camp's argument, I must ask, should we accept this imposition when long-time friends feel free to say as they please with respect to BF's personal details while Avalon nobodies are strictly censored? A tip off from our audio boys. Roxy Music - The Early Years will be in our (HMV's) sale as of 27th December at #6.99. They tell me the quantity is limited so get there early to avoid disappointment (as they say). KBP OK, I gotta ask: who on Avalon has been censored, (strictly or not)? Dear All, The December 2000 edition of Record Collector (blimey, that makes an unprecedented three copies I've bought this year...) has a small snippet about El Ferrari. It's in an article about the new Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG) published yearly by the magazine. One performer who kept his sights trained on glamour and sophistication throughout the decade, however, was Roxy Music front man Bryan Ferry. He has never quite lived up to the expectations of those who assumed that he would remain one of the most influential figures in rock, but there has always been a healthy demand for such stylish rarities as the promo pic sleeve for his solo debut 45 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall', and the rather less picturesque white label test pressing for 'The Bride Stripped Bare'. Now you can add a third and even more exotic mega-rarity to the list: the confirmed sighting of a withdrawn gatefold sleeve edition of his first LP from 1973, 'These Foolish Things'. Foolish indeed is anyone who has ever turned up a snobbish nose at a copy, as it's valued in the new RRPG at a suave #500. Throw your precious gifts into the air... Regards, Ivor. P.S. A while back, Han pleaded: > Help Ivor! Sorry Han - you're on your own... Most of these are far too trendy and modern for an old progger like me. Remember, I only listen to *old* obscure stuff S;^) I would have thought The James Taylor Quartet (acid jazz) would have been right up your street and Moloko are pretty cool, though no-one was EVER cooler than Miles Davis (did he get a mention in that style thread a few weeks back ? If not, for shame....!!) ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 08:11:53 +0000 From: "Martin Stockman" Subject: Re: [AVALON] What Goes On. >From: KB Porter > Shame on Anthony Price! My God, did Lucy Helmore ever stand a chance knowing > she is second best - not the love of her husband's life? .... Anthony Price is, in his cavalier way, only stating the truth. Whilst the marriage vow is indeed very sacred to the family-focussed Ferry I think that when he dons his artist beret he calls upon his twenty-five year obsession with the Texan clothes-horse for inspiration. This siren has attained a mythical stature in Avalonia, and Lucy, whether in wellies or Lacroix, is a mother not a muse. How thrilling that the old dog would compose a billet-doux to his bete noir. What madness consumed him as he gummed down the envelope, sauntered to the pillar box and set in motion the missive cross-town from Holland Park to Richmond Hill. And how was it received ? Jerry, the sidewalk papers had really gutter-pressed you down for the Graduate, ("fried eggs" - how I winced when I read that one,) pashmina-robed picks up the mail, sunshafts through the stain-glass, the familiar scent of floris filling the air as she opens the London W10 franked memoir-foux. And, if I may venture, how bourgeoise of Kay to moralise in this way. So much of what we do as fans is by its very nature prurient. Its a one-way mirror. Like the rest of us Bryan leads a fairly controlled and responsible life, yet I find it entirely plausible that his cocktail of spending power, genius and insane good looks would ferment the odd bout of madness. How else could you explain his recent tryst with a gravel-voiced B-list presenter at the Met Bar ? His lyrics persistently return to a world where order is turned upside-down by obsession. We are all, ultimately, chained and bound. Slaves to love.
