As for Eurostar - expect them to go out of business any day, the number of free tickets they have to keep giving away. For the second time in a row - the train was over an hour late getting to Paris - and their 'unwritten rule' is to give all passengers another free Single ticket if the 'over an hour late' happens, or 50% off their next return. At this rate, I'll start my own travel agency, the freebies I'm building up. It took 5 hours to get there this time ! No matter. Had more time free in Paris than originally expected so managed to get to the Megastore to attempt to fulfil a few requests fired at me recently offlist, by people wanting the Marvin Pontiac CD (yes, yes, I got them) although 3 requests for the Chet CD I mentioned did cause me a problem, as there was just one copy only left in the whole of the store of this particular item. Mr.Glen Lehman in Oz, step forward - it's yours, well, you did ask me first - it'll be in the post this weekend. A quick browse through the Roxy/Ferry sections revealed no new goodies. Btw, isn't the packaging for 'Valentine' just awful ! Stayed in a new area, about half a mile behind my usual Left Bank haunts, in the Rue Mouffetard this time, it's cool, little cobbled streets, great restaurants, great shops, great little CD store, great little Hotel, though unfortunately my hotel room just failed to make the grade when I wanted to enter it into the 'swinging a cat' competition. Basically, you were either in bed, or on it. So, to Tuesday, Rotterdam bound for the Remakes. A meet-up first, with Ron (Mr Ferry to you) and those inscrutable Dutch Avalonians, whereupon we journeyed to the New York Hotel (once visited by BF, I'll have you know) for a rather superb pre-gig dinner, of Scottish Lamb, probably, amongst other things, such as Beer. Much chit-chat too about the mooted Avalonia Party - major plans afoot, hopefully coming together, news on that as soon as things are finalised. The Band are itching to do it. Watch this space, as they say. A few of you have asked what tracks Remake Remodel are currently performing, so I'll post the Setlist shortly, it's in my case somewhere !... The Band did 2 sets, and it seemed much more powerful than previously. Great sound, and the interesting phenomena of using a different Drummer for each of the 2 sets - Paul Thompson for the first, Andy Newmark for the second. Well, maybe not exactly, but that's what it sounded like. Highlight of the gig yet again, was definitely Leslie's solo on 'A Song For Europe'. Astounding. I wish the recording had turned out ok, but it was plain from early on that it was unlikely, as we were so close to the speakers, some of which were way out front, it was bound to be very 'overloaded' on my MD recording - which was exactly what happened. Better luck next time, as I'm going to get a really good Mic to catch it. Shame, as I really would have liked to let you all hear the songs as they were performed, with the hollering vocals of Han Snijders as an added extra coming from behind me. But hey, he got all the words right, of course. Great gig, and ta much for the usual brilliant Dutch hospitality. And yes please for Chet. Also, can you remember the name of the Japanese store which sells boot videos ? Further, any thoughts on the recent cocaine connections. Maybe it explains Petworth: Han S's famous casanova dancing (and singing); Dr S's famous blue shorts; Dr S's famous brown suit; Vapor and Nurse Kim; Chris T's brilliant stomping; The Siren's dark and sombre ambience; Monquoy Boy (Mr Lawn perhaps); The Avalon Ball. Some of the biggest names in showbiz came up with designs for the scheme, which saw inmates from nine UK prisons taking part. Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger penned a toucan, while his estranged wife Jerry Hall used a star as the inspiration for her design. Other celebrities to take part included Bryan Ferry, Emma Thompson, David Bailey, Frankie Dettori, Vinnie Jones and Home Secretary Jack Straw (and who wouldn't want a cushion with his signature on? - Chris). All 39 cushions have also been embroidered with the signature of the personality who donated the design. They will go to the highest bidders in a special auction to be held next Thursday at Knepp Castle, near West Grinstead, West Sussex. Viewing of the cushions will also take place at Sotheby's in London's New Bond Street next Monday and Tuesday. Event organiser Katy Emck, of prisoner charity Fine Cell Work, said: "We are expecting a lot of interest in this project and are hoping to raise around £15,000. "The money will be used to continue our charity, which gives prisoners the opportunity to save some cash while they are in prison by working. "The work they produce, which includes quilts, rugs, needlepoint cushions and other embroidered items, is then sold on to shops and some of Britain's top interior designers." The sale is today (16th) Chris ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V5 #405 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
