Just seen the new Jimmy Smith album "Dot Com Blues" (crap title) but the producers name caught my eye - John Porter! He also plays guitar and bass on a few tracks. Also, featured on drums (on one track) is Andy Newmark. The album itself is not too bad, guest appearances from Etta James, Dr. John, BB King, Taj Mahal and Keb Mo, with a fair smattering of covers and a few originals. When I spoke to the record company about the first one (way back in Feb?) they said then that it would be in two parts, although they did say it would be split in to separate Eno/Jobson era cd's. Wait! I've just found the original post.... obviously something changed even before the first one came out. >>> "Simon Galloway" 02/08 11:13 am >>> I have just spoken to someone at NMC who informs me that "Valentine" will be the first of 2 Roxy Music releases on Burning Airlines covering ALL the Musikladen recordings 1972 -1975. They are currently preparing the artwork which will be a tribute to the first 4 Roxy albums involving a photo shoot of models in the Roxy style, with detailed liner notes. Volume 1 (out in March) will cover the Eno years, volume 2 (to be relased a couple of months later) will be the Jobson era. And it'll be a full audio/visual experience, being DVD as well. >>> 11/14 4:25 am >>> In the new Mojo (Dec 2000), Badlands are advertising Valentine Vol 2 - ("More Live Tracks") by Roxy Music. Anyone know which line-up, what, when??? Always a controversial topic. For me drug taking has played a massively significant role in the artistic output of Bryan Ferry. He has never seeeked to publicise his cocaine habit but he can't hide it on things like Live Aid. I doubt if he would have had the nerve to get on stage without it (remember it was his first live show in over two years). Speaking of which are there drug connotations on the song Valentine? Ferry talks of his deep rooted unhappiness ("Happiness hard to get") caused by his drug dependency ("when he's on the line") and how it turns "half a man" into "twice as much". "A world of their own" is the fantasy world of the drug taker and when reality bites ("train of mirrors none so fair") then it's time to "let the show begin" again. Thoughts?
