["Ivor Canning" > Ferry has always been (since the early days with Roxy Music) very well respected artist, no matter if he worked with Roxy Music or as a solo-artist; the Mamouna tour was quite succesful, despite the fact that Ferry seemed "lost" (drugs? or just too nervous?) on stage. I guess it must have been a very critical and dark time for him where he didn't get the right support from the record-company. Compared to that it's running perfectly for him now. I am really happy for him that he's receiving this life-achievement; something he definetly derserved a long time ago. It might brings back old confidence to keep on working on new (and own) material. I think there are a lot of people out there who would highly respect him for keep on working constantly in the way he has done so far - for a time of almost 30 years he has given us so many beautiful songs that I will treat each new song like a gift. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2000 11:43:31 +0100 From: "C.H.S=?ISO-8859-1?B?9g==?=temann" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Award for Bryan ATGB did very well in Germany, and it spent, I think more than 25 weeks in the charts, while Slave To Love even entered the top 20. So well, there seems to be a bit of a market here, but that's not telling when it comes to the quality of the music. The early Roxy Music are being regarded as innovative (if remembered), but: Mamouna has been criminally underrated almost everywhere, as far as I've read, although there are several magazines that seem to have the respect for the Bry that he really deserves. There's one ATGB interview in the cultural magazine of the "SPIEGEL" that I found very witty and hilarious, but I only have it in German. When it comes to chart positions, he is all in all not that big in Germany. Also, when I ask my contemporaries (in their mid-twenties), they hardly ever seem to know him. But with ATGB some started taking notice. I was getting very sentimental when spending some days in Berlin and the 30-year-old friend of a friend was reminiscing, that back in 1985, Ferry's Live Aid performance was discussed heatily afterwards in school (coke/no coke etc.). Nowadays, it's Puff Daddy, Scooter or the Spicies, you know? Keep on lurking Guy (but feel free to shout)! Heather quite reasonably asks: > Hi Ivor ... > Thanks for the update but ... What is GFT? Sorry - I should have explained - GFT is a UK mail order CD outlet specialising in progressive rock (all the way from the usual suspects to bands of truly breathtaking obscurity !) The man who runs it (Malcolm Parker) also runs the Cyclops label which releases and distributes albums by cottage-industry progressive bands like Sinkadus, Tristan Park, Mastermind and Land's End. > BTW - one of my local Crimsoids friends said: > ----------- > My brand new iBook with all latest bells and whistles does not recognize > the format of the Heavy ConstruKction enhanced CD and so of course I > can't play the movie Well, remembering that DGM had problems with DVDs before, I did ask Malcolm if technical problems were the cause of the recall but all he was told was that there had a been 'a change of heart'. I notice the DGM site still has 'HC' on sale though - maybe they're only withdrawing them from third party retail sale... Then Han coughed: > Groente, Fruit- en Tuinafval Hunt a fruit and tune a violin ? S8^) It's a good point though - I've never thought to ask what it stands for !! Regards, Ivor. n.p.
