OK. I've got it - Ferry/Fripp/Sakamoto collaboration, the remix project with FSOL, Portishead and UNKLE. Cool! Bloody 'ell Ivor, you've dragged me in. Was always amazed that Bryan didn't do something with Sakamoto years ago as Sak's a big mate of the Sadistas. It would certainly be interesting. I'd like him to collaborate with Joe Claussel who runs Spiritual Life Records and is the best DJ in the universe (well NYC anyway) he mixes up deep house, garage, latin/afrobeats and then throws in Donna Summer's I feel Love mixed into Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower and it works! I'm sure he could do something with our old boy - the duet being "the sample" and Bry. Failing that Bryan and Ol' Dirty Bastard would be a laugh. Serious possibilities, Macy Gray or Lauryn Hill (did I read somewhere that he's already done something with Wyclef Jean or did I imagine it?) Simon looks beyond a pair of souls for sale: > Rather than a conventional duet, a collaboration would be favourable. How about a dance collaboration - remember the remix of Love Is The Drug.... <> Thanks, Simon (sarcasm) I've been trying to forget that particular abomination... Future Sound Of London, The Orb, Portishead or Morcheeba I can certainly hear Bryan doing something interesting with. Going further back - how about Kraftwerk (hey, if it doesn't work out, they can always go for a bike ride afterwards !) or the warmer offshoot Elektric Music ? For a real eye-opener, I would dearly love to hear Bryan collaborate with Ryuichi Sakamoto - anyone who can put Sly Dunbar, Youssou N'Dour, Brian Wilson, Robbie Robertson, Robert Wyatt and Pandit Dinesh together with various Okinawan and Japanese musicians on the same album and manage to squeeze in a cover of The Stones' 'We Love You' has a truly cosmopolitan outlook. Most of all though, I still hope for a Ferry /Fripp collaboration - that would be very interesting indeed. Actually, Bill Nelson would be great too...oh sod it, put 'em all together !! Agreed. It'd be good to have an album or at least a few tracks of Ferry on vox&piano (I have said that some time before) and Fripp on soundscapes. Bill Nelson would be great too, maybe on the next album. Perhaps he should not only draft in Bryan, but also Roger Eno. I see it's not going to happen. I'd rather have him singing solo, it would be a nightmare to have him sung with Mick Jagger or David Bowie (it was horrible enough to see these two together in "Dancing in the street"). Even worse: Jagger and Bette Middler. I am happy Ferry has never done things like this; guess the video of "Let's stick together" was enough of collaboration with a "singing" female. However, Chrissie Hynde would be a nice voice (he loved "Brass in pocket") and it could turn out more interesting than her work with UB 40. ___________________________________________________________________________ The subliminable footer says: To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 08:25:13 -0400 From: KB Porter Subject: Re: [AVALON] duet dream home IF Bryan Ferry MUST duet with another singer, my vote, hands down, is for none other than the ultra-smooth and smoky voice of the alto, Ms. Cesaria Evora! The archives appear to begin on the 13th of September 1997. That is unless there is another source and there may well be since you say you have been a member for over six years. I am interested enough in the subject matter to co-ordinate such a venture. It would take a while but it would be a labour of love. If we could get enough people involved then everybody could say download a months worth of digests, pick out the interesting bits and then I could put it all together by subject matter. Could any volunteers please mail me off list. The more we have the better chance this has of being a success. Good luck. My first question is this, are the sleeve-like, plastic wrapped cd's I am seeing in the stores, part of the remasters? The jewel cased versions are titled, but the others are not. Just wondering. They are a limited addition and are designed to replicate the original vinyl albums. The main difference between these and the jewel case is that the jewel cases have the lyrics on all the sleeves withe the exception of Viva and Heart Still Beating. The card board sleeves only have the lyrics for Country Life, Manifesto, Flesh & Blood, Avalon, In Your Mind, Bride Stripped Bare, Boys And Girls, Bete Noire, Mamouna, as these albums orignally had the lyrics in the vinyl inner sleeve. 'Roxy Music' has included Virginia Plain on the jewel case but not on the cardboard sleeve.
