Song analysis is the one thing that appears to be missing on this, otherwise excellent, forum. Mark Edwards noted in Arena Magazine in 1994 that "Reading through a decade's worth of features on Ferry it's striking that not a single lyric is quoted or mentioned, when in fact, quietly and largely unrecognized, Ferry has turned into one of finest rock lyricists around." I'd argue that this has been the case since 1974. Writers prefer to write about Ferry the clothes horse rather than Ferry the musician. For this very reason I'm currently writing my own reviews of the various albums (will post them when completed). So, as opposed to simply stating that it's a favorite, let's find out exactly why they're your favorites. Can't say that I'm a big fan of Siren but Sentimental Fool was a great opener on the Siren tour. Any video footage of this? Nick __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I could not get a list from our audio campaign guys but they tell me that some of the Roxy / Ferry CD's are in the sale at £4.99 ("while stocks last"). They usually start at Stranded (I have yet to see Roxy Music and For Your Pleasure re-masters in a sale) and run through to Avalon. With Ferry it is usually all of them apart from ATGB. On the subject of ATGB tour VHS/DVD. I have asked my contact at Virgin for any news about a release for the tour in the UK on the visual formats but he has no news. He did tell me that the first Spice Girls DVD will be released early November.....Great!!! Our singles buyer has told me that he has been told that Roxy Music have been signed to V2 Records for next year! I'm unsure how true or reliable this is but I will investigate........ I'd argue that this has been the > case since 1974. Only since 1974? I'd cite "In Every Dreamhome...", "A Song For Europe" and "Mother Of Pearl" (off the top of my head) as evidence that he was doing pretty damn well before 1974! Others would doubtless come to mind if I played some albums. Otherwise, points well made and well atken. I like She Sells, too, finding that the collision between smart lyrics and Jobson's stumble-funk awkwardness have grown on me over the years. I love Bryan's multi-tracked vocals over the coda... ba ba baaa! Imagine my surprise to be told that Virgin record stores in Glasgow, of which there are several branches, had none! In addition all of the Scottish stores in total, maybe held about 10! I'd be prepared to bet that this release won't do too well if that's how it's being promoted! Cheers, Diane P.S. I ordered it in the end! - -- On Sat, 7 Oct 2000 17:17:29 Rob Edwards wrote: >Sorry (again!) for the delay in coming back re the HMV (UK) sale.
