I haven't seen the film but research tells me it's basically about a British spy who has falsely been accused of a murder and is now fleeing to avoid the consequences. This would appear to fit in with the obvious paranoia conveyed in the song i.e "Where do we go from here, I wish I knew", "What do you want from me, and is there time", "Getting too hot to bear, just keep it cool". Once I have it I will be able to work out exact costs and will contact those concered directly. Like Han, I have experienced some difficulty in receiving payment for past cd trees, and will therefore only be sending out cd's once the payment is with me. I have been playing BF's CD output in approximately date order, and the black painted label on the non-playing side of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" lifted off whilst in the car cd cartridge. Has this happened to anyone else, and is the best way to remove the swirls that have appeared on the cd's to wash them in soapy water? They still seem to play ok. Recently the fact that South Downs was included on the TTOIA set backwards was mentioned. I have 4 of the 3 inch cd's issued several years ago, including Jealous Guy, which has South Downs the right way round! PS, Simon, can you put me down for Fjord Pleasure. - -- Peter Dewey ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! I actually wrote to EMI in 1996 concerning this issue. It appeared to be only those cd's manufactured by EMI Swindon housed in digipak holders. I found that along with the Taxi/Mamouna singles, several others had developed the same problem. EMI responded smugly, but suggested cleaning the discs (playing side only) isopropryl alcohol (also used for tape head cleaner fluid) with 100% pure cotton wool. This did work, but left some of the discs a bit smeary, and the patterns have re-appeared on some. There was a bit of a scare about it at that time (highlited by an alarming letter in Record Collector). Another common problem was discs manufactured by Phillips (PDC I think, including the Polygram group and Virgin before the EMI takeover). Some coating they used on the discs actually caused them to discolour (the tea-stain effect) giving the discs a golden appearance. All my original Roxy cd's on Virgin have been affected by this, as well as loads of others. Philips did actually provide a disc replacement service for a time after they realised, but it wasn't highly publicised. Then of course there's the pinprick holes problem - hold your disc up to the light and actually see light coming through pinprick breaks on the cd. This is mainly a problem with early cd's that were silver both sides, with just writing on the label side. Many of the early Atlantic/WEA discs have this problem. The truth is, no one actually knows the true life expantancy of a cd, and they do seem to detiriorate, as I have witnessed this in my own collection. It's always worth just checking your discs from time to time, and also keeping hold of the old vinyl. Sorry if I've scared anyone. (not rude) Hello, While eating my breakfast this morning, I discovered this in my local paper (the Bournemouth Advertiser). It was in the editor, Neal Butterworth's, column. "It would be a sad thing if you were to go through life without a celebrity moment. You know the one. You're having a wee in the loo of a hotel and suddenly Richard Whiteley or Jeremy Paxman appears next to you, answering nature's call. Or you're spending your Sunday afternoon browsing through the perennials in a local garden centre and there's Posh and Becks with little Brooklyn in tow. My favourite celebrity moment came early in my journalistic career when I was despatched to interview the lead singer of a band called The Tourists in the early 80s. They were the support act at Manchester's Apollo Theatre and as I wandered like a lost soul through the catacombs of the dressing room area after their opening slot, I found myself hopelessly lost. I knocked on the nearest door. It was answered by Bryan Ferry. In his underpants. Wearing a red leather jacket. Now this moment may be lost on you if you are under the age of 25 and while it sounds like the sort of surreal dream which could suddenly turn nasty and involve goats, it was one of the defining moments of my life. Behind Bryan were the rest of Roxy Music, awaiting their call to the stage and it remains etched on my memory to this day. (Just for the record, I went on to interview the lead singer of The Tourists - a lady called Annie Lennox - and we parted with a big smacker of a kiss. Just thought I'd add that for good measure.)" The remainder deals with the unexpected appearance of R*bb*e W*ll*ams on a football pitch where the writer's son was playing, but I thought I'd leave that out. This decision had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that I don't like Mr. W. much. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed my little contribution ;-) Bye Laura ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" !
