However, I would not generally agree concerning the Velvet Underground as Reed was certainly the motor of everything and he had written most of the songs based on fantastic simple guitar-riffs as well as remarkable lyrics. Cales contribution to the music-world is on a much wider (he does not care much about the genre!) and highler level (he's not scared of classical elements too). His production-support for new & unusual talents (like Nico, Patti Smith or Iggy Pop) will always be unforgetable. He's complex (and tragic) character will always have to work him on the edge - while Lou Reed (unfortunately) is living his legend...! I've noticed that most of the people only mention the very old Cale albums. Most of his records are so different to each other that I would find it hard to compare them (the first ones are generally more rock, easier to understand) later he went through different and more complex styles!). The one I really played a lot was "Honi Soit" (great sound, very straight melodies, love the horns! ) as well as his last proper solo-album called "Walking on locusts". For someone being classig trained it is overwhelming how basic, simple and excellent he can focuse and concentrate on something that makes the song!!!!!!! Simply a genius to me! (Can't wait to see him playing live again next week!) ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! But the sea is wide and I can't swim over And neither have I wings to fly. I wish I could find me a handy boatman To ferry me over to my love and die. My childhood days bring back sad reflections Of happy days so long ago. My boyhood friends and my own relations. Have all passed on like the melting snow. So I'll spend my days in endless roving, Soft is the grass and my bed is free. Oh to be home now in Carrickfergus, On the long road down to the salty sea. And in Kilkenny it is reported On marble stone there as black as ink, With gold and silver I did support her But I'll sing no more now till I get a drink. I'm drunk today and I'm rarely sober, A handsome rover from town to town. Two weeks away and I come back to 440 e-mails! Saddened to see how many of them were even more venomous than usual and Richard Swift gone. Avalonia is fast becoming a second rate replica of Big Brother (or Survivor). Who would you vote first out of the house? Right, off the soap box and on to what makes Avalon for me - the camaraderie. No point in doing a show review - it's been covered many times in loving detail, so a few brief highlights/low lights. The high, meeting so many new faces natch. A particular mention to Collete who with her daughter completes a triptych of Ferry loving generations (look at her profile on Kicki's site to see what I mean). Nice to meet Robert and Sue Whiteford at last, Jane Collard, the clan of Scottish lassies and Cecilia who'd made it all the way from Italia. The bloody Dutch were everywhere causing trouble and being really stand-offish as usual, they never smiled once throughout and I really don't understand why they ever come to Ferry gigs....NOT! Terry Lane looking particularly dapper, a far-off JF Roxy, brother and sister Swifts and all the usual suspects some crocked, some sun-glasses less by the end of the day, some covered in cake mix and some just.. well.. bursting with exuberance. Casanova (the Castle Howard mix) is my own particular high on this tour (it's where I slinkily get my nod every time) and a barn storming Hard Rain, where the front row played a blinder as the choreographed backing singers ( even Ferry was impressed), and also the spectacle of Andrew Shearer losing his cool and throwing his not inexpensive shades on stage. We tried to retrieve them après le show to be told by the bouncers we had two hopes of getting them back - Bob Hope and no hope. The low was most definitely the e-ed up pissed as rats eejits behind us who left us with the Bitter without the Sweet. They are very lucky I'm such a placid well mannered lass. Something strange happened throughout this Summer of Ferry love. It started at Petworth as Woodstock and ended at Castle Howard as Straw Dogs. And who even bothered with a picnic after the first one? I hear Ferry has enjoyed these ventures more than he could have imagined and it's not out of the question that they may be considered again some time in the future. Just make sure we all wear chain mail next time. Running Wild began, which I always think of as being the flat battery song (that's another story). As it got to the end, with "running wild, again" being repeated over and over, with Phil giving it some on the guitar, I momentarily forgot what I was listening to, and when I tried to remember what it was I started singing the chorus to Out Of The Blue (Viva version specifically). I then stopped, and realised that the outro of Running Wild is in fact the chorus of OOTB rehashed. I may be slow at 20 years on the uptake, but has anyone else picked up on the similarities? Give it a listen now, Running Wild first, then OOTB then back to Running Wild. I don't know if they're the exact same chords, but I wonder if it was intentional - "there's that melody again"? I started a thread when I first joined the list about 2 years ago regarding the lyrics to The Right Stuff. I hoped the remasters would include the missing lines that were missed from the original release but to my dissapointment they are not there. From 2:46-3:02 there are a few lines that have never been printed anywhere :- album/CD/remaster/Smash Hits/ Website With there being so many new members on the list since we last debated this so maybe some of the new members might shed a light on this. We also have the live version on All Styles Served Here to assist. The infusions ensure a quick blood circulation of the inner ear - 60% successful. You've probably had an ear collapse (cause: stress). Nasty business if you dont react quickly. You need to rest, avoid noisy areas, plus tv etc. - but most important, get the infusions asap. The ringing in the ear should decrease, could take 3 days, or 3 weeks, or 3 years.- important though are the first 5 days or so. If it does'nt disappear, there is always a way to train the brain to accept the noise, without having to listen to background music to fall asleep. I've been through all this before, a real pain in the ear "Tinitus", but theres a 50% chance of coming through this ok. Look for Webpage Tinitus address with readers emails etc (certainly helps !) - sorry, but I've since deleted the address I had.
