And I am certain that Fripp is a very conscious archivist. Thanks for the info on the No-Man record! I actually thought that Flowermix sort of WAS the album, and I didn't know that it was a remix project - which it obviously seems to be (though I must have read about the original in a Fripp soundscape CD booklet). I think Tim Bowness has got a pleasant voice, and James Wraith is OK to me too - as long as it doesn't sound like Steve Strange without studio treatments... Regarding OTHER Ferry/Fripp collaborations I can only provide that in the scrapbook of Crimso's Frame By Frame box, Fripp's diary excerpts mention studio work with Ferry in 1981. As far as I know, nothing has surfaced. It appears strange to me that there should be so few Roxy outtakes - there must be many Ferry outtakes (has any- body ever heard the original Horoscope, by the way?). And yes: does anybody know of proper Ferry/Roxy outtakes circulating? I have a feeling that this questions may make me appear a bit uninformed. My excuse: I'm only 25, give me some time. In a previous programme they played the intro. to The In Crowd. So far that's it!! Will they mention Dance Away in the 1979 programme? Am I just an old person who is clinging to youth and the glories therein?!?! I do sometimes hear myself saying to younger friends, "Roxy/Ferry, nothing to match them nowadays you know, I've forgotten more about music that you know, sonny jim". Am I old? The other verse in common usage (switched with the Kilkenny lines) goes: 'They say of life, and it has been written, One chance of happiness, that chance I lost. The sands of time have passed from out of me, And it's too late now to count the cost' Poignant lines, indeed. I remain convinced that there are more verses to this song, partly because of the nature of folk ballads to be wordier than a Brian Eno article and partly because the narrative is so patchy. Anybody come across any more lines ? Regards, Ivor. n.p. I've lost count now but think we could be split 50/50 with a tendency towards Country Life. Anyone else kept count? Hi all A couple of points which have struck me over the last wee while. (1) Someone mentioned in an earlier posting about trying to bring ReMake/ReModel to the UK for a gig - I think this was said following the Jazz Festival concert in the Netherlands - anyone got any more thoughts/news on that? I think it would be a kill! (2) Re Casanova debate (just briefly) CL is the roar of a crowd - Casanova in the Colosseum. The LST version is the language of self-loathing at 3am. Me? I'd go for CL - must be the rock chick in m, or I have a weak stomach for bleakness. (3) There was something else but of course now I've logged on I've forgotten - - oh well I'm sure it'll come back to me soon. Or maybe like Rob I'm getting old too - I was aghast that Roxy didn't turn up on 'I Love the 70s' too. I like HoT too, though for me Paris 1919, Fear and the mighty Slow Dazzle are better collections. Cale apparently rushed HoT so he could get to New York to produce the Patti Smith Group album, Horses. > I have to agree that his "Heartbreak Hotel" is one of the best and > weirdest cover-versions of an Elvis-song ever. In fact the "Chicken > Shit" ep from which it came was fantastic. HH is wonderful, Cale's over the top delivery mines every bit of twisted sentiment from the song, while Manzanera's Eno-treated screaming guitars sound an air-raid warning from the gates of Hell. If you know what I mean! (HH was on Slow Dazzle: Chicken Shit featured on 1977's Animal Justice EP in the UK, along with Hedda Gabbler and a great version of Memphis, Tennessee.) > Personally I've always thought that Cale was far more interesting > than his former Velvet's colleague Lou Reed. Definitely. Cale, Tucker and Morrison had the talent but Lou beats them hands down on ego! Sure enough, it returned a few moments later and the dulcet Ferry tones could be clearly heard. The whole thing can't have amounted to more than 10 or 15 seconds in total but it was enough to constitute a 'plug'. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be on the film soundtrack and the other items under review didn't carry any underscore music !
