Reecey, Thanks for the `total recall` there were certainly some happy and memorable moments throughout this tour and I have to agree with you on some of the highlights of the tour. I for one, found it a pleasure meeting some of the avalonians on this tour, people I have never met before but made me welcome into the avalon `family` , the likes of Jocelyn who I stood next to at Petworth, then there was Tom Wallace & Collette Olive from Elton Hall - remember that one,the natives from the farmers union were not best pleased to see us. I went to 5 gigs, Newcastle 99 and 4 summer ones meeting a lot of great people along the way,it would be great to meet up with some of you again, maybe we could have an `avalonians gathering` in the not too distant future Terry *************************************************************** The contents of this Email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed. I'm not much of a rap fan, but have always liked Ice-T, so I watched. Well I was stoked when they played a tune that looped the intro lick from Roxy's Amazona and I just loved it. It's one of my favorite Manzanera licks and it was definitely lifted from the original Roxy version, w/ Phil and Johnny's parts, not sure about the drums. I would LOVE to get it for the collection if anybody knows what song it is. Being a big Bowie fan, and also a fan of music of tha ilk and era, I had great fun spotting all the little references, altough I'm still a little confused by the ending. Anyway, the soundtrack is just as good. There's an early script of it somewhere (a Bowie site) where it shows where and where the Bowie songs would have been used. Very interesting. My own thoughts, on 'the best of everything'... >> Reecey, thanks for bringing back some happy memories for me. I will certainly remember and reminisce about this particular Ferry Tour, because of all the people that I've met and have stayed friends with. For me: Surprise concert: Golders Green, Dec 6th, 1999. A colleague brought tickets into work from her mother, who happened to work for the BBC. Thanks Rachel! Melting Moments: Royal Festival Hall, December 14th, 1999. Bryan touches my hand. My sister's first B.F. concert, totally in shock, when big sis runs down to front of stage and starts jumping up and down frantically. Castle Howard, sexy smiles from Bryan. 'Misty eyed' moment: Every time Bryan sings 'Smoke gets in your eyes' and same as you Reecey, Royal Albert Hall 11th April, dedications to sons, and Lucy being 'the only face.' Best adventure: Petworth 23rd June. Walking and driving for miles to find Bryan's house in Little Bognor. Taking photographs of house and Lucy's horses. Making Friends: Elton Hall, meeting Jim Lawn and Nils Solberg! Terry Lane, thank you for introducing me to the Avalonians! Castle Howard, finally meeting Cecelia, Reecey, Andrew , Chris, Jane, and Jocelyn, who I stood next to at the front. Windswept moment: Elton Hall, heavens open miraculously during 'Hard Rain.' Thanks to everyone I've met, making this tour the best one for me! I agree with you Terry, that as many Avalonians as possible should meet up in the near future. What do other people think? Btw Reecey, I apologise if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that you owned a record shop in Crouch End. Recently my step-dad (Irish, grey hair) visited a store in this area and bought numerous records including B.F. He said there is a special separate section on B.F./Roxy, and the owner's name is Johnny. Anyway, if it is your shop, can you save some rarities for me? I >was thinking of > >buying the soundtrack could anyone recommend it or warn me off it? I've had the soundtrack for about two years now, and...love it! Thom Yorke does good renditions of Roxy, most of the song being from the first album, except for "Bitter Sweet." Grant Lee Buffalo's "The Whole Shebang" is another good one, and that one was an original, a pretty good Bowie-esque turn if you ask me. "Baby's On Fire" is the one that Jonathan Rhys Myers does, and it's pretty good as well. Placebo's cover of "20th Century Boy" ROCKS, while the cover of "Personality Crisis" falls kind of short. Pulp's "We Are the Boys" is pretty good, but what? No Suede? For shame! No Cobra Verde? Double shame! I realise it wasn't ultra relevant to the list but I was amazed at the response it generated. I'm convinced by you all! I'll go and purchase it tomorrow and give you my esteemed views as and when. (Bet you can't wait!) Cheers for the patience. No I was wrong to call you sad, I should have said that you're a sick and twisted. You seem to think that people are actually taking the crap you post seriously, but I don't see anybody coming forward to testify to your personal integrity. KB Porter wrote: > if only we knew we could trust you Where the "we" who are involved, you seem to consider yourself as the self styled voice of the list. Sorry to disillusion you, but you ain't. As for trust I think you're on the self importance trip again. > I'm repulsed by your attitude that > your countrymen's tax dollars are nothing, that the privilege afforded > to you to go back to school at countrymen's expense costs you nothing! For starters we don't actually use dollars over here. Secondly, who the hell do you think paid his taxes in to start with. Having said that since when has it been any of your business or have you now become the watchdog of the avalonians private lives as well as self appointed watcher of the list. Your self importance really does take the biscuit. > Time to get out of the kitchen, Tom. You can't take the heat. Bad news for you on this one, I ain't goin' nowhere. I joined the list and there's no way that someone like you will make me leave. I'll post what information I get that I'm allowed to post and I'll swap stuff off list with the avalonians who are interested, if this bothers you well too bad. If the heat is getting to anybody I'd say that it's you. > He will do whatever is in > his power to save his butt, and then you will know how Gareth felt when > Jim Lawn hung him out to dry. Where is this coming from? You've been hinting at lots of stuff over the last month so now it's time for you to come clean. Where does all of this "hypothetically" put stuff come from. Either name your source or get off the soap box. Btw, I don't believe for a minute that your getting it from Gareth and I doubt very much if anyone else will believe that so come on give those who have to suffer your poison little posts your story or stop wasting everybody's time. I see your fixation with the number of time you can mention Jim Lawn in a posting hasn't gotten any better. > You also prey upon the ignorance of newcomers to this list. They do not > know the history - they do not know how you sold Avalon List out to Jim > Lawn, how you sold your soul and betrayed Avalonians for the sake of > your own despicable gain. I can't see where this is coming from, after all I don't remember contacting any of our new members. And it certainly isn't me who's calling the ignorant. It's time for you to put up or shut up, what sell out and what gain? Go away and take a good look at yourself before you start posting about others. You may well think that you have integrity, but I for one haven't seen any proof of this. Quite honestly I don't give a toss about what you think of me. You must understand that you just ain't that important, in scotland we have a saying "go play on the motor way" so go take a walk on the fast lane. To answer a few 'offlist' questions asked to me recently - no, I won't be stocking it in 'Listen' I'm afraid - I object to the cost price being asked of me by Record Co.s and wholesalers alike, of £9.29 plus VAT. Rather pointless as I refuse to sell 'newies' for above £10, normally. When will this country learn ? Lower the prices to dealers - and everyone will benefit. God, I hate Record Companies. Anyway, I'd like to know if anyone else has managed to pick it up yet (and what they were charged !). I'm afraid all I had were some promos of it some weeks ago, (same as 'normal' release - no special promo cover or anything) and I didn't realise there was to be a delay, otherwise I would have have offered it up to Avalonians first. On the 'forthcoming' front - a huge bundle of 'advance promos' came my way today, amongst them the new Waterboys, due out end of Sept, is really good. I guess I'm one of the few who don't actually like their earlier stuff much ( right up to 'Whole Of The Moon' etc, I found to be a bit dull ) but this is a goodie, to be called 'A Rock In The Weary Land'. Mike Scott back on form I reckon, and I've liked his recent solo Albums in any case. Another goodie (though I know this artist causes massive extremes of opinion) is the new Numan offering due out sometime in October apparently, called 'Pure'. I think 'dark' and 'brooding' could best describe it, though I really like this kind of feel. Very, very powerful in places too. Deafened a few people today in the Shop with that one (and myself, too - ears still ringing !). Still raving about Sigur Ros - if you like an Icelandic, dreamy feel - get it ! Best current Album is still Emiliana Torrini 'Love In The Time Of Science' though. These Icelandics get everywhere. She rules. That's enough opinionated reviews for the moment I think ! Reecey...
