The Dolls were a big influence on the UK new wave scene. Alas with Johnny now departed, my chance to see the Dolls has gone. What was Johanssen like Debs? So sad isn't it, but have you ever asked yourself why? Since when have you had the god given right to demand the anyone has to share anything with you or anyone else? > Do you really think this > list had no life prior to Tom, who first posted March 15, 2000? How sad can one person get, did you read back through months of the digest to find that one out or does good old KBP have a little black book where all our postings are registered from day one?. Why don't you get a life, over the last couple of months there have been at least two major air crashes that I've heard about on the news and 118 guys died trapped on board a submarine. Get things into perspective cause your bleatings just ain't that important. And don't forget, have a nice day, Tom. ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! (and maybe more to come). For me, much travelling around Europe, 14 Gigs, having a really good time. Friendship and plain sailing. My own thoughts, on 'the best of everything'... Best indoor gig: Paris Le Grand Rex, March 9th, 2000. Best outdoor gig : Elton Hall, Peterborough, July 1st, 2000. Best 'solo' : Lucy Wilkins, 'Out Of The Blue'. Nothing to touch this, pure, sheer brilliance. A new Roxy Girl is born. Best seat on the Tour : Front row centre, Royal Festival Hall, London, December 14th, 1999. Wonderful. Big thanks to J'OB and Martinot for upfront ticket sales info. Eternal thanks. 'Personal' moment : Bryan was the first person I spoke to on my Birthday this year, just seconds into March 10th, following the previous nights gig in Paris. And the first thing I did was apologise to him before I asked for a signature, as he had to wait whilst I unfolded the 6ft by 4ft 1973 Roxy poster I had brought with me. I guess this ranks alongside the fact that on my birthday I went back to the venue, and got the huge, huge poster advertising the gig (from the display hoardings outside) from the Le Grand Rex staff, who point blank refused to take any money for it, despite me starting the 'bidding' at 200 Francs. Great people. 'Recognition' moment : During 'Strand' at Blickling. Great to get 'the nod' from the Man occasionally, as many of us know. 'Ultimate in cool' moment : BF donning the shades of Andrew Shearer, at Castle Howard, Aug 18th, 2000. 'Laugh out loud' moment : The first time I saw the Quartet do the 'yelps' in Let's Stick Together, at Golders Green, Dec 6th, 1999. This part of the Gig kept me amused throughout the Tour. Brilliant. 'Misty eyed' moment : The Only Face. (particularly at Paris, and of course at the Royal Albert Hall, 11th April 2000, with his 'dedications'). 'Hairs on the back of the neck standing up' moment : Again, The Only Face, but also when the Quartet stand up and rock out towards the climax of Out Of The Blue, whilst Lucy W. does her stuff. An amazing moment, which ranks with virtually anything I'd seen before of Bryan and Roxy 'live'. The moment may have lasted only about 20 seconds, but it stays with me. Pure excitement. 'Blistering performance' award : 'Hard Rain', at Castle Howard. For some reason, this was one of the best moments of the Tour. Stunning. 'Still slightly baffled' moment : Massive over-reactions everywhere when 'Oh Yeah' starts up. Best off-stage 'recognition' moment : Glasgow, 17th December, 1999. Sub-zero temperatures (really) and Bryan doing his signings, shivering on the steps of the tour bus. Bryan asked me "How's the Shop" ? After that one, I think I walked on air back to my Hotel. Best 'Avalonia' meet-up : Petworth, 23rd June, 2000. There was really something special about the atmosphere of this one, both pre and post gig. Best 'meeting the Band' moment : Brussels, 9th February, 2000. Myself and Andy Mol hanging around, suspiciously. Long chats outside, and photos with, Rosie Wetters and Julia Thornton, both so friendly. They couldn't get on the tour bus at first (still locked up !) so stayed around and chatted to myself and Andy. Later, Bry signed the poster for the gig for me, which of course had mysteriously fallen off the front door of the Venue into my hands an hour or so before. (This is the poster featured on the cover of the Cirque Royal Video). Totally horny and stunning awards (in reverse order) : 3) Rosie Wetters 2) Lucy Theo (and her 'Slave To Love' gyrations) 1) Julia Thornton. Obviously. 'Party night' of the tour : The Hague gig, July 13th, 2000, followed by Remake/Remodel 'live' in Scheveningen a couple of hours later. A simply awesome evening (and early morning). Funniest Avalonian during-gig comment : J.O'B, at Golders Green, as BF sat down at the piano. "Here we go, 'Chopsticks'". A priceless moment. Funniest Avalonian post-gig comment : Andy Mol, in the hotel bar, at 3a.m., following the Petworth Gig : "So, I travel about 1000 miles, to sit in a cold field, with warm beer, to see a 50 year old man in leather pants. I'm going to bed now, goodnight". 'Warmed the cockles of the heart' moment : J.O'B strolling into the hotel bar with my '100' cake, following Castle Howard. I still sit here and grin like an idiot every time I think about it. One of those great moments, which I'll never forget. And finally : The best thing of all is not just the fact that BF is truly back on form, it's the fact that I would never have gone to so many of these gigs, or travelled around so much if it wasn't for the people on this list, who made it all such an amazing round of social events. The deciding factor of going to all but one of the outdoor gigs (I missed one due to work - damn !) was the 'Avalonia' factor. Same goes for Antwerp, Brussels, Paris, The Hague. Time, spent well, is so rare. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm A Ferry fan all the way. I discovered him on the 'Phemonenon' soundtrack in 1995 or whatever year it was. I have to admit the only reason I bought the soundtrack was for the new Clapton song....I'm a Clapton junkie, too. But the second song on that soundtrack took my breath away and ever since I've been on the hunt for Bryan everything. His voice just makes my whole day. Hey, can anyone help me out? I live in Canada and 'Slave To Love' hasn't been released here yet. Does anyone know a date? I heard a rumor I have to wait until the 26th of Sept. ( Bryan's B-day, coincidentally) Thanks. >From: KB Porter >Reply-To: avalon@smoe.org >To: avalon@smoe.org >Subject: [AVALON] Re: >Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2000 11:16:58 -0400 > >Hi Tara, > >Welcome to the list! > >Yes, I see your point - dark hair, blue eyes....
