["Jason Gibbs" ] Re: [AVALON] Values, and Customer rules ["luc.morvillier" Subject: [AVALON] Values, and Customer rules A quick hi to the people wondering about 'values' of Roxy stuff, firstly. Many singles are usually 'said' to be £4, just like any single is said to be (according to the books on the subject !) except the first 2 with pic covers - allegedly about £15 - but at the risk of sounding obvious - it's worth nothing until someone wants it - a fact I found out quickly running a Record/CD shop. Later stuff like Dance Away etc, won't sell in my neck of the woods unless it goes in the 'to clear at 10p' box. Sad but true. Same goes for the last 3 Roxy Albums - very often straight in the £1 section, as there's so many around. Wow ! It hurts, I can tell you. Same for all Bry solo bits. The first 2 Roxy are a different story though, so often sought after in good condition. (on 'Island'). It depends too on what area you're in - for instance I have trouble selling chart CDs at £10 - yet just 5 miles away in the centre of town they sell by bucketloads for £15 each. As I said, everything has no value until someone wants it. I guess working with Mail Order though would be a very, very different story, if you have the time (which I haven't). I've seen so many ordinary things go for silly money on the 'auction pages' of the Net like ebay etc - unbelievable. Still, if someone wants something that badly - they'll go to any lengths to get it. I've done the same thing myself at times with things 'I must have', I do admit.. Sorry to Jane and all re 'Early Years' - I presumed it was already out, as we had a batch of 10 in 3 weeks back, so I didn't mention it at the time as I thought everyone would have snapped it up anyway locally. I'll be quicker off the mark next time. I must say, I wasn't too pleased that, just as with the 'Thrill' Box, yet again 'Grey Lagoons' has been overlooked. Much kicking up the arses to all concerned on this. On a lighter note, the new 'sign' of Customer guidelines in my window may be working - a bit. I had a customer in yesterday afternoon, whilst playing through the new comp, and he made a comment about Bry "not being able to sing at all", and "how does he get away with it". Now, if you come into my shop - there's just some things you really, really don't say. Gordon, who often works in the shop with me, smiled and said to him "you do realise you're skating on very thin ice here, you know". He looked baffled. "Let me show you something", I said, and led him out to my new notice I put in the window only last week, which says, and I quote : - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 'The Management and Staff of this establishment cannot be held responsible for any action taken against Customers who express any sort of comments against, or dislike for, the music of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music'. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - He looked in amazement, came back in, bought a couple of things, paid for them, and apologized profusely before he left. You know, I don't say this too often, but just sometimes, I really do love my job. Reecey... PS (Yes, I know, that particular Customer won't be back, but boy, was it fun.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Be afraid. www.albumzone.net - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! Besides if it wasn't for all the past trees from this wonderful group I don't think I would still be as interested in Ferry. It's really come down to the trading of the current and past tours that have kept me interested since he has no new material coming out. I think once you get the rest of the show let us know how it all turns out and we can get a tree started.
