Hi Tom, just ignore the advices of Han; he can only be jealous of such a unique - and original - accent. To me it was just a pleasure to listen to you all - I couldn't learn more in such a short time, whereever you're accents came from. The one from Glasgow seems fine to me - very melodic indeed!!!! Newcastle was new to me but with Tracy's help I could get along with that one too! I usually trust my ears and go by the "sound" of people's voice - northern accents have been a problem to me. After almost 15 years of absence in your country I was surprised how much I did remember. Due to my silly shyness and unability of dealing with too many people at one time - I missed talking to more of you - well, I can make it up in Hanover, being in my hometown gives me more confidence. BTW did anyone else see the picnic table which was made up solely of people dressed as Eighties pop stars - there was an Adam (well you always get ants at picnics) a Marc Almond, and a few stray Spandaus, Durannies and Human Leaguers..oh and a Cindi Lauper and the inevitable Madonna. They were miles from the stage, but were really in the party spirit. Hellos to all those I met new and old. I'm distraught to have missed Cecilia, Julia and Tracy (I saw you and didn't know who you were - ack!), and disappointed not to have had a chance to speak more to Rob Whiteford. Next time folks. Frankly for me its just as much fun to share in the community spirit as it is to see the gig. Highlights: 1. Therese O'Donnell's excellent story of her indoctrination into Roxy Music by her brothers. 2. John Fulton queueing for a hour to buy me a pint and then carrying down the 1 in 2 hill - top man. 3. Almost running into Lucy Ferry (with two youngest in tow) by the gate. She turned looked into my eyes...then quickly looked away. Ho hum. 4. The late night drinking and conversation in the hotel...damn good cake too. Any road up, if someone had told me a few years ago that I would drive for six hours across rainy Britain to stand in a field with ten thousand other nutters and hear a 55 year old man sing 65 year old songs I would have questioned their sanity...Perhaps I should question mine. However, it is a big wide World Wide Web out there. Perhaps there are such guides to be found online with a little searching. Bookstores and good music stores might also be good resources. How about a glance at eBay to see if similar items might be up for auction? The world is your oyster, but you might have to do a little work to find that pearl. It seems Ferry has worked with fellow Geordie Mark Knopfler again. Legendary Nashville label Sun Records - once the home to the likes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roy Orbison, among others - will be celebrated via an upcoming compilation tribute album. Three songs were recently recorded for the set at London's Abbey Road studios, according to a report on Dire Straits founder Mark Knopfler's official Web site. Knopfler himself recorded a version of Lewis' Rock'N'Roll Ruby," Brian Ferry covered Presley's "Don't Be Cruel," and Italian artist Zucchero took on Charlie Rich's "Who Will The Next Fool Be." The backing band for each of the recordings included Knopfler, former Presley band guitarist Scotty Moore and drummer DJ Fontana, drummer Marcus Cliffe, bassist Chris White, and former Squeeze member Jools Holland on piano and organ. While Knopfler is said to be finished with his contribution to the album, others expected to contribute tracks to the album -- which as yet does not have a label or a target release date -- include Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, members of the Who, former Queen guitarist Brian May, Van Morrison, and Bonnie Raitt, among others. ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" !
